Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Richard Alvarez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Jacobs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Alvarez might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Welcome To The Family - A7X. Ryan Jacobs is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Richard Alvarez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
14 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ryan Jacobs! The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Josh West and Jeff Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Jacobs darts in trying to clinch letting Alvarez counter with a right hand. Jacobs shoots in looking for a takedown. Alvarez tries to sprawl out of it but Jacobs keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Alvarez manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Alvarez showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Jacobs.
Jacobs throws a body punch but Alvarez moves out of range. Alvarez gets tackled into the cage by Jacobs. Jacobs maintains the clinch. Alvarez tries to break the clinch but Jacobs is controlling the position. Alvarez working hard to break the clinch.
That's one minute gone in the round. Alvarez is trying to break the clinch but Jacobs is controlling him. Jacobs pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Jacobs closes the distance and lands a one-two. Jacobs throws a right hand that misses
and Alvarez counters with a lovely shot to the body. Jacobs fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Alvarez connects with a single shot there. Alvarez tries a head kick but it misses.
Jacobs tries to clinch but Alvarez is having none of it. Jacobs misses with a two punch combination.
Jacobs pushes Alvarez up against the cage in a clinch. Jacobs jumps guard but Alvarez stands there with Jacobs around his waist. Jacobs gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Richard Alvarez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ryan Jacobs.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Jacobs breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jacobs takes a swing at Alvarez's ribcage but misses. Jacobs tries to clinch but Alvarez moves out of range. Jacobs darts in and clinches Alvarez up against the cage. Jacobs breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Jacobs rushes Alvarez and presses him up against the cage. Jacobs is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. The crowd are getting on Jacobs's back here. They're not happy about his lack of aggression in the clinch. Jacobs wants the takedown. Alvarez is fighting it off but Jacobs persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Alvarez's guard against the cage.
That's three minutes gone in the round. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Jacobs is pushing down on Alvarez's leg trying to pass to half guard. Alvarez is fighting to maintain full guard but Jacobs has managed to sneak the leg through. Jacobs looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Alvarez wants to get back to his feet.
Jacobs missing with the ground and pound from half guard. Jacobs is looking for a kimura but Alvarez is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Jacobs to get the leverage. Jacobs in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Alvarez tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Jacobs!
