Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tyson Mike! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Nicanor Reyes! The judges for this bout are Lou da Vinci, Dean Styles and Russell Pearce.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mike throws a series of punches but Reyes avoids them all with ease. Reyes fails to land with a series of punches.
Mike lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Reyes circles away quickly and effectively. Mike swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Reyes rushes Mike and presses him up against the cage. Reyes escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Mike throws a half hearted mid kick. Reyes feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Mike is trying to keep Reyes in close.
Mike can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Reyes controls the pace. Reyes drops back, looking for a kneebar! Mike looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Mike looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Mike! Mike tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mike tries to move into full mount but can't pass Reyes's legs. Reyes is trying to control Mike's posture but Mike avoids it. Reyes sneaks back into half guard. Mike is just content to waste time from the top position. Reyes takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. Reyes manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mike manages to get himself to full guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Reyes is stalling in the full guard. Mike wants to stand but Reyes is controlling the position. Mike is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Reyes stands up from guard. Let's bang! Reyes fails with a takedown attempt. Reyes fails to land the takedown.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Reyes displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Mike. Mike throws a head kick that misses. Mike throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Reyes tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Mike is in Reyes's guard. Mike avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Mike trying to control the position from guard on top but Reyes is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Mikeis looking to pass into half guard but Reyes pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Reyes is in guard. Mike can't keep his opponent in guard - Reyes advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Mike wants to control but Reyes is keeping busy and won't allow it. Mike misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Mike trying to hold on to Reyes's head to control him but Reyes postures up.
Reyes has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Mike defend it? Reyes steps over the head and cranks it - Mike is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Reyes!
