PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Potemkin Buster (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Serge Sarkisyan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sarkisyan is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: George Michael - Careless Whisper. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Potemkin Buster!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Serge Sarkisyan!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Eddie Farnsworth and Bruno Lombardi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Buster gets cracked there but stands up to it.
Buster uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Sarkisyan.

Buster decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Buster is looking for a kimura but Sarkisyan is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Buster to get the leverage.
Sarkisyan is looking for a sweep. Buster is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Buster looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Sarkisyan is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Sarkisyan moves into full guard.

Buster drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Sarkisyan manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Buster has Sarkisyan in his guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Sarkisyan trying to control but Buster is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sarkisyan sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Buster is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Sarkisyan defends well.

Buster looking for subs off his back but Sarkisyan has passed one foot through into half guard.
Sarkisyan wants to take a breather but Buster is having none of it.

Buster looking for a kimura from the bottom but Sarkisyan passes into side control!
Buster is looking to regain half guard here but Sarkisyan keeps moving and retains side control.

Buster sneaks back into half guard.
Buster is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Sarkisyan is keen to just control but Buster is a slippery customer.
Buster is looking to control Sarkisyan's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Buster avoid being mounted?

Buster looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Sarkisyan controlling the action here.
Buster manages to get to full guard.

Buster throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Sarkisyan escapes and throws Buster's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Buster tries to buck Sarkisyan off but Sarkisyan is having none of it.
Buster looking for a sweep but Sarkisyan has passed into full mount! Oh no!
Buster is looking to improve his position but Sarkisyan isn't that keen on the idea.
Sarkisyan trying to control but he's not successful this time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Buster is working to get back to half guard.
Sarkisyan lands a big shot there that rocks Buster but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Buster is looking to improve his position but Sarkisyan isn't that keen on the idea.
Sarkisyan looking to control but Buster is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Buster can't escape the position.
Sarkisyan can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Buster is looking to escape.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Sarkisyan connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Buster tries to hold on but Sarkisyan pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Serge Sarkisyan will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Buster gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Sarkisyan counters with a stiff right hand.
Sarkisyan motions for Buster to come forward. Sarkisyan throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Buster shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Sarkisyan is looking for a sweep. Buster is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Buster is looking for a kimura here.
Sarkisyan moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Potemkin Buster overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Buster is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Sarkisyan is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Sarkisyan has escaped and now he's on top!
Sarkisyan is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Buster throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Sarkisyan escapes and throws Buster's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Sarkisyan grinds an elbow into Buster's temple.
A lull in the action here as Sarkisyan stalls from top position.
Buster is trying to control Sarkisyan's posture but Sarkisyan avoids it.
Buster prevents Sarkisyan from improving position.
Sarkisyan staying calm.

Sarkisyan lands an elbow.
Sarkisyan cracks Buster with a big elbow.

Sarkisyan tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Sarkisyan has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Buster is trying to get back to half guard.
Sarkisyan lands a nice forearm strike.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sarkisyan trying to control the position but Buster is working away.
Sarkisyan working away.

Sarkisyan landing a few strikes.
Buster gets back to half guard.
Sarkisyan wants to control but Buster is keeping him busy.
Buster is looking to improve his position.
Sarkisyan landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Buster is not content to let Sarkisyan control the position.
Sarkisyan trying to pass the guard but Buster defending well.

Sarkisyan is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Buster is trying to get back to full guard.

Buster looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Buster wants to control but Sarkisyan is keeping busy.

Sarkisyan seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Buster is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Serge Sarkisyan!
After winning the bout, Serge Sarkisyan thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
