Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mike Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jon Haws!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Skip Squint and Hugh Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Haws falls off balance throwing a combination
and Smith makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
A telegraphed right hand from Haws misses the target.
Smith looks for a takedown but Haws sprawls well.
Smith shoots in and drives through. Haws sprawls well.
Smith moves in looking to clinch but Haws pushes him off.
Haws defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Smith.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Smith. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Haws throws a nice outside leg kick.
Smith uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Haws.
Haws fails with an attempt to clinch.
Haws closes the distance and lands a one-two.
Smith fails in his attempt to clinch.
Haws throws a series of punches but Smith moves out of range.

Smith shoots for a takedown but Haws saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Mike Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Haws throws a right hand that Smith ducks under and follows up with a left that Smith also avoids with ease.
No joy there for Haws, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Smith lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.

Smith decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

Haws looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Ground and pound from Smith.
Smith drops an elbow to the side of Haws's head.
Nice strikes from Smith there.
Smith has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Smith is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Smith breaks from Haws's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Smith prevents Haws from getting the reversal.

Haws tries to hold on but Smith pushes him away.
Smith landing strikes from the mount and Haws is in trouble!
Haws is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
A nice elbow there by Smith.


Haws is rocked!
Smith lands a big elbow - Haws is in trouble! More strikes from the mount and Haws is forced to tap out!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Mike Smith!
A relieved looking Mike Smith thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
