Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Kaeden Johnson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Johnny Severn! The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Steve Smith and Trevor Gratis.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Severn closes the distance and clinches. Severn works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Severn decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Johnson, up you get! Severn fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Kaeden Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Severn throws a lazy head kick and Johnson counters with a series of strikes. Severn will be more careful next time no doubt. This has been an exciting period of action! Johnson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Severn shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Johnson manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Severn avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Severn stands up from Johnson's guard - Severn perhaps looking for a knockout. Johnson manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Severn on his heels. He'll look to pass Severn's guard now, I'm sure. Johnson wants to pass the guard but Severn is keeping the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Severn holds on and takes a little breather. Johnson throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Johnson postures up in Severn's guard and throws a big left but Severn blocks it. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Johnson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Severn is keeping the position for now. Severn is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Johnson has his hands clasped together but Severn extends an breaks Johnson's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Severn.
