Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mr Ripley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Coburn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ripley comes to the cage accompanied by The Talented Mr. Ripley - Tu Vuo' Fa l'Americano . Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ripley misses with an uppercut. Coburn saw that one coming.

Ripley tries to bum rush Coburn with a series of wild strikes but Coburn uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Coburn holds on to Ripley's head and controls the position momentarily.
The referee asks Ripley politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Ripley prefers to stall for the moment though.

Coburn tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Ripley easily slips into full mount!

Coburn defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Ripley.

Ripley changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Coburn tries to avoid it but Ripley manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Coburn to the ground. Coburn escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mr Ripley. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Ripley looks for a takedown but Coburn sprawls well.
Coburn ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Ripley moves away.

Coburn shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Ripley eats them both and turns towards Coburn to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Ripley shoots in but Coburn avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Ripley swings away with a leg kick that misses.

and Ripley counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Ripley is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Coburn sees it coming and defends easily.
Coburn is looking to get back to is feet but Ripley passes into side control.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Ripley has hold of Coburn's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Coburn tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Ripley cranks the arm and Coburn screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Coburn, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Mr Ripley!
