PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Anid Sovsic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Roddy Bowes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sovsic comes into the arena with Seek and Destroy blaring out of the sound system. Anid Sovsic has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Anid Sovsic!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Roddy Bowes!
The judges for this bout are Tarja Halkonen, Matti Vanhoillinen and Marco Blurström.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sovsic fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Bowes fails with the takedown.

Bowes moves into range and clinches up with Sovsic.

Sovsic manages to pull guard.
Bowes won't allow Sovsic to sweep him here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sovsic wants to stand up but Bowes is controlling him.
Sovsic looking to control.
Sovsic pulls Bowes in close to his closed guard and prevents Bowes from doing any damage or advancing position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Sovsic trying to keep a closed guard but Bowes is proving a slippery customer.

Sovsic working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Bowes doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Bowes manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Sovsic misses with an uppercut. Bowes saw that one coming.
Bowes tries to clinch up but Sovsic circles away and keeps his distance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Bowes drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Sovsic is looking to regain half guard here but Bowes keeps moving and retains side control.
Bowes remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Sovsic can't do much from the bottom here.
Sovsic tries to improve position but can't.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sovsic is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Bowes asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Sovsic is breathing heavily.

Bowes decides to stand up, so the ref orders Sovsic to his feet.
Sovsic tries to clinch there but Bowes circles away.
Sovsic fails with the takedown.

Bowes clinches up against the cage.
Sovsic wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Bowes has him pressed against the cage.
Bowes unloads a knee to the mid-section. Sovsic lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Bowes comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.
Bowes trying to land knees to the body.
Bowes misses with a knee to the head.
Sovsic wants to get back to striking at distance but Bowes won't allow it.
Bowes misses with an elbow over the top.

Sovsic breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Bowes shoots for a takedown but Sovsic saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Sovsic connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.


Bowes is rocked!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sovsic pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Bowes is still on wobbly legs! Can Sovsic finish him?
No joy there for Bowes, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Sovsic throws a half hearted mid kick.
Bowes seems to have recovered his senses.

Sovsic gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Sovsic manages to break the clinch.
Sovsic fails with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Anid Sovsic. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Sovsic fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Bowes sprawls well initially but Sovsic persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Sovsic missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Bowes blocking the ground and pound attempt from Sovsic.
Sovsic wants to free his trapped foot but Bowes is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Sovsic stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
A solid body kick from Sovsic.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anid Sovsic dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Sovsic throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Bowes looks to clinch

and Sovsic counters with a shoot takedown. Bowes fights it but they end up in guard.
Sovsic advances position into side control!

Sovsic stands up.
Bowes darts in trying to clinch
and Sovsic counters with a head kick that crumples his opponent - he's in a world of trouble! Sovsic looks at the referee who does nothing so Sovsic lands a crushing right that sends Bowes to the floor! This time the ref steps in to end the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Anid Sovsic!
