Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
15 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Rogers Nelson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Karl Spatz! The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Anni Minnemäki and Marco Blurström.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Both fighters circling a little - Nelson finishes the exchange with a kick to the body. Spatz fakes a jab and scores with a low kick. Spatz takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Spatz throws a half hearted mid kick. Spatz fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Spatz tries to grapple but his opponent circles and Nelson counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Spatz fakes a jab and scores with a low kick. Nelson feints and then cracks Spatz's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Spatz down. Spatz throws a quick inside leg kick. Nelson lands a jab-cross combination. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Nelson dips to his left and cracks Spatz with an uppercut!
Spatz is rocked! Nelson dips to his left and cracks Spatz with an uppercut! Spatz is still on wobbly legs! Can Nelson finish him? Spatz tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Nelson paws at him with a jab and circles away. Spatz instigates a clinch. Nelson missing with knees to the body.
Spatz softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage. Nelson lands a nice shot to the body. Stalling in the clinch from Nelson.
Nelson blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Nelson breaks from the clinch.
Spatz moves to clinch but Nelson breaks away and Nelson counters with a lead uppercut that lands right on the button! Spatz goes down! Will Spatz beat the count? 3,4,5 - he's up! No problem. Let's get back to the action! Spatz is looking to clinch but Nelson is avoiding it.
Nelson swats away the attempt to clinch by Spatz.
That's one minute gone in the round. Nelson connects with a body shot. Spatz goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Nelson looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Spatz! The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Nelson in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.
Nelson is landing with some decent strikes but Spatz is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Nelson lands a big elbow. Nelson cracks Spatz with a big head shot that has him covering up instantly! He's rolled onto his side and the referee has seen enough - this one is aaaaaaaaaaall over!
