Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Marc Brodeur! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Marcos Cavalcante Ribeiro! The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, William Peck and Yves DeLean.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Brodeur drives through with a takedown into Cavalcante Ribeiro's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Brodeur gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent. Cavalcante Ribeiro closes the distance and clinches. Brodeur blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning. Cavalcante Ribeiro throws a head punch that misses. Cavalcante Ribeiro is trying to maintain a safe position but Brodeur gets an underhook and turns Cavalcante Ribeiro into the cage. Brodeur on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Cavalcante Ribeiro drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Cavalcante Ribeiro jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Brodeur might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Cavalcante Ribeiro is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Cavalcante Ribeiro drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Brodeur manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Cavalcante Ribeiro has Brodeur in his guard. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Brodeur wants to control from the top but Cavalcante Ribeiro keeps moving. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Cavalcante Ribeiro is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Brodeur accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Cavalcante Ribeiro working for a triangle but Brodeur defends it easily.
Brodeur wants to control from the top but Cavalcante Ribeiro keeps moving. Brodeur has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Brodeur preventing the sweep. Brodeur stands up and waves to Cavalcante Ribeiro to follow him. Brodeur closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Cavalcante Ribeiro's guard.

He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here. Cavalcante Ribeiro escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Brodeur gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Brodeur pushing down on Cavalcante Ribeiro's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Brodeur connects with a nice short shot to Cavalcante Ribeiro's temple. Brodeur is stalling here. Cavalcante Ribeiro is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Brodeur seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Cavalcante Ribeiro has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work. Brodeur is trying to buck Cavalcante Ribeiro off. Cavalcante Ribeiro goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Brodeur has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Cavalcante Ribeiro but great work by Brodeur. Cavalcante Ribeiro manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu! Brodeur tries to get to full guard but Cavalcante Ribeiro has control of the leg. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Brodeur kicks off Cavalcante Ribeiro and gets to his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
That was a close round but I would say that Marc Brodeur will probably get the nod. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Cavalcante Ribeiro keeping moving, preventing Brodeur from controlling successfully. Brodeur has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Cavalcante Ribeiro to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Brodeur is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Cavalcante Ribeiro pulls down on the head and he's put Brodeur to sleep! This one is all over!
