PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Xavier Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mathew Maynard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sanchez comes to the cage accompanied by Sublime - Santaria. Maynard is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by do it. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 28 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Xavier Sanchez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 22 - 14 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Mathew Maynard!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Yves DeLean and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maynard lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Sanchez backs up against the cage.
Nice jab there from Maynard.
Maynard uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.


Sanchez is rocked!
Sanchez scores with a shot to the body.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Maynard lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Sanchez at a distance.

Maynard gets the takedown into side control.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Sanchez is trying to control Maynard's posture but Maynard avoids it.
Sanchez is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Maynard wants to free his trapped foot but Sanchez is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Sanchez has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Maynard is working away from the top position though.
Maynard seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sanchez does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Xavier Sanchez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Maynard changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sanchez looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sanchez looks to land a left hand but Maynard moved out of range nicely.
Sanchez takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Maynard paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.
Maynard is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Sanchez.
A telegraphed right hand from Sanchez misses the target.
Maynard blocks a head kick by Sanchez.
Sanchez connects with a leg kick. Maynard looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Sanchez fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Sanchez pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Sanchez takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Maynard looks to throw the jab but Sanchez is out of range.

Sanchez wants to advance to full mount but Maynard doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.

Maynard has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Sanchez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Sanchez avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Sanchez stands up over Maynard, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Both fighters circling slowly here as the pace drops. Hopefully one of them does someth.. OOOHHHH!!!! Sanchez throws an absolute beast of a head kick! Maynard is done! He's out cold, twisted and contorted up against the cage! Wow!

Xavier Sanchez gave a mention to Hellbent in his post fight interview. That will please them (and hopefully generate some sales).
