Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Sakke Salasana! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gunnar Aron! The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Johanna Lukiainen and Roosa Järviläinen.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Salasana changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Aron looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Aron is looking to regain half guard here but Salasana keeps moving and retains side control. Aron manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. Salasana prevents Aron from improving his position. Salasana tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Aron. Aron is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Aron is not content to let Salasana control the position. Salasana thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Aron's head. The fighters are battling for position here. Aron manages to regain full guard. Nice work. Aron tries to strike from the bottom.

That's one minute gone in the round. Aron keeping moving, preventing Salasana from controlling successfully. Salasana stopping the sweep attempt from Aron. Salasana postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Aron is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Salasana, into his guard. Salasana can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Aron controls the pace. Salasana striking off his back but it's not causing Aron any problems.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Salasana wants to stand but Aron is controlling the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Aron trying to control the position from guard on top but Salasana is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Salasana keeping full guard, as Aron tries to pass. Salasana looking to hit a scissor sweep but Aron is one step ahead there. Aron stops Salasana from standing up. Salasana working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Aron.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Aron moves out of range of the strikes.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Aron stuffs the takedown. Salasana looks for a takedown but Aron sprawls well. Salasana wants to clinch up but Aron keeps it at a distance. Salasana misses with a head kick.
Salasana looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Aron is fending him off so far but Salasana persists. Nope, Aron circles away and we're back to standing. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sakke Salasana. That's going to take a lot out of him. Salasana is breathing heavily. Salasana tries for a takedown but Aron sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily. Aron scores with a jab to the jaw.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action. Salasana fails with an attempt to clinch.
Sakke Salasana seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Salasana is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Salasana tries to clinch up but Aron circles away and keeps his distance. Salasana looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. Salasana is looking to clinch. Salasana fails miserably with a takedown attempt. Aron checks a low kick from Salasana. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Aron slips a jab from Salasana. Aron avoids the head kick by Salasana.
That's one minute gone in the round. Salasana throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Aron's waist but Aron gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Salasana off to one side. Aron uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Salasana. Salasana tries to land a front kick but Aron steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed. Salasana will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sakke Salasana. That's going to take a lot out of him. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Salasana shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Aron as he jumps to the side. Aron tries a head kick but it misses.
Aron keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Aron shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Aron thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position. Aron works a leg free and moves into half guard. Salasana is in trouble now - Aron has advanced to mount! Aron can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Salasana is looking to escape. Aron takes his opponent's back. Perhaps a chance to lock up a rear naked choke here.
Salasana looks to control his opponent's hands but he's not mananging it at the moment.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Salasana covering up well under a barage of strikes. Aron throws a big right hand but he misses and hits the mat. Ouch. Salasana trying to control the position but Aron manages to sink in the hooks. Salasana avoids the strikes from Aron. Aron throwing wild punches that miss their target. Salasana manages to reverse the position and now he's in Aron's guard. Nice work there by Salasana.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Aron wants to pass the guard but Salasana is keeping the position. Aron slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Salasana tries to get back to half guard but can't. Gunnar Aron has got the better of the ground game so far. Aron is looking to take a break and control but Salasana is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Salasana regains half guard. Aron wants to lay and pray for a moment but Salasana keeps working. Aron missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Gunnar Aron showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!
Salasana shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Aron counters with a shoot takedown. Salasana fights it but they end up in guard. Aron forces his way into half guard. Aron wants to take a breather but Salasana is having none of it. Aron is working for a submission of some sort.

Aron takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Salasana is not content to let Aron control the position. Aron tries to pass the half guard into mount. Salasana knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt. Salasana is trying to control but can't.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground. Salasana looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Aron! Salasana looking to control but Aron is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Aron wants to try and get back to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Salasana tries to control but Aron wriggling away. Aron in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Salasana looking for a guillotine from mount but Aron is having none of it. Salasana with shots to the head and body - Aron looks very uncomfortable down there. Salasana with the ground and pound from mount. Salasana is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Aron can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Salasana lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Salasana takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Salasana wants to finish this one by submission but Aron is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Salasana. Salasana looking to finish Aron with some ground and pound. This is bad for Aron! Aron is looking to get to half guard. Aron in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Aron keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Salasana stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Salasana closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Aron gets back to full guard.

Salasana has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Aron manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Aron with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Sakke Salasana has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Aron is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Salasana has managed to escape the submission attempt.
And that's the end of the fight! Gunnar Aron comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Aron has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
