Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
19 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Albert Ashton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Fabio Fagundes! The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Josh West and Jeff Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Fagundes swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Ashton shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Fagundes sprawls well. Fagundes wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ashton gets slowly back to his feet. Ashton fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Fagundes sprawls well initially but Ashton persists and gets the takedown into half guard. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Ashton throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Ashton looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Ashton is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Fagundes wants to improve his position but Ashton is controlling well.
Fagundes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ashton. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Ashton looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ashton maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Fagundes could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Ashton has cracked it and Fagundes is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Ashton!
