PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Denis Churilov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alistar Overeem (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Alistar Overeem told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Denis Churilov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alistar Overeem!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Ian Loll and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Overeem walks forward, straight into a front kick from Churilov.

Overeem drives through with a takedown into guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Overeem's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Churilov wants to get back to his feet but Overeem is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Overeem trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Alistar Overeem has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.

Overeem changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Churilov looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

It looks like Overeem might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Alistar Overeem was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Churilov misses with a series of wild punches.

Churilov can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Overeem controls the pace.

Overeem is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Churilov's shoulder. That is not cool.

Overeem fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Churilov sprawls well initially but Overeem persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Overeem takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Alistar Overeem showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

OK we're going to have a standup here. Alistar Overeem hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Overeem shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Churilov is trying to defend but Overeem finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Alistar Overeem comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Overeem has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
