Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 1, fighting out of London, Shannon Bailey! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chief Lightfoot! The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Lou da Vinci and Jorge Garcia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lightfoot fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Bailey. Bailey misses with a head kick.
Lightfoot scores with a push kick. Bailey moves in looking to clinch but Lightfoot pushes him off. Lightfoot tries to clinch but Bailey moves out of range. Bailey shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Lightfoot's guard. Lightfoot keeping moving, preventing Bailey from controlling successfully. Lightfoot seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Bailey tries to stand but Lightfoot is controlling from the bottom. Bailey throwing strikes from guard but Lightfoot blocks nicely. Lightfoot pulls Bailey in close to prevent any damage.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bailey avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Lightfoot seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Bailey drops back looking for a leg! Lightfoot is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Lightfoot manages to kick Bailey off! Bailey jumps back into Lightfoot's guard. Lightfoot is trying to control the position but Bailey postures up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Lightfoot holds on and takes a little breather. Lightfoot looks gassed! Lightfoot keeping moving, preventing Bailey from controlling successfully. Bailey tries to stand but Lightfoot is controlling from the bottom. Bailey trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Lightfoot tries for a takedown but Bailey circles away easily and Bailey counters by clinching up. Lightfoot breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Lightfoot doesn't succeed with the takedown and Bailey counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Bailey. Bailey passes easily into side control. Nice work. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Shannon Bailey dominated that round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.
Lightfoot fails with an attempt to clinch.
Lightfoot closes the distance looking to clinch and Bailey counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Bailey. Bailey manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back. Lightfoot stands up from guard. Let's bang! Chief Lightfoot seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Lightfoot shoots in looking for a takedown. Bailey tries to sprawl out of it but Lightfoot keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Bailey manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Danga de danga de dang - Bailey scores with a four punch combination! Lightfoot shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Bailey as he jumps to the side. Bailey shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Lightfoot is pulling down on Bailey's head to control his posture. Lightfoot lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Bailey! The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lightfoot is landing with some decent strikes but Bailey is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Bailey is trying desperately to improve position. Bailey tries to lock up and control but Lightfoot gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Bailey is squirming around, avoiding Lightfoot's attempts to control the action. Lightfoot prevents Bailey from getting the reversal. Bailey is working hard here to advance position. Lightfoot avoids the attempt from Bailey to control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Bailey is looking to improve his position but Lightfoot isn't that keen on the idea. Lightfoot avoids the attempt from Bailey to control. Bailey sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. Bailey trying to control here.
Bailey is trying to stand up here but Lightfoot is controlling him well. Bailey is trying to maintain the position but Lightfoot is very close to passing his half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Shannon Bailey dominated that second round. That's time! Back to the action! Ladies and gentlemen, this is the final round!
Lightfoot gets caught flat footed, as Bailey shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. Bailey stands and steps away. Lightfoot gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Bailey fails with a takedown attempt. Bailey scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction. Lightfoot takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Bailey drives through with a takedown into guard. Bailey wants to pass the guard but Lightfoot is keeping the position. Bailey is looking to work some ground and pound but Lightfoot has wrist control. Bailey trying to control but Lightfoot is working from the bottom. Bailey lands a couple of decent looking shots. Lightfoot takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's one minute gone in the round. Bailey seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Bailey drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bailey jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Lightfoot is working an open guard so Bailey takes the opportunity to get back to his feet. Lightfoot doesn't succeed with the takedown and Bailey counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Bailey. Bailey sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Lightfoot's guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lightfoot wants to get back to full guard. Shannon Bailey overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Bailey looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Lightfoot manages to escape and get back to his feet! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Lightfoot feints and as Bailey raises his hands in defense, Lightfoot changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage! Lightfoot stands up from guard. Let's bang! Bailey throws the kick towards the body but Lightfoot avoids it. Bailey lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
And that's the end of the fight! Shannon Bailey showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Bailey, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
