PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between John Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chopsaki Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, John Lee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Chopsaki Jones!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Micheangelo Fripello and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lee tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Jones swivels and escapes.
Lee keeps the fight on the outside.
Chopsaki Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jones misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Jones cracks the inside of Lee's front leg.
Jones tries a head kick but it misses.

Lee changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Jones looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Lee has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
The fight stays on the outside here - Jones looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Jones tries to score a power double leg takedown but Lee sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Jones somewhat.
Jones throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch but Lee swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Jones will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Jones throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Lee.
Jones shoots for a double leg takedown but Lee sprawls well. He's pushed Jones's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
John Lee has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chopsaki Jones.
Lee shoots in and drives through. Jones sprawls well.
Lee fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Lee is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Jones.

Lee rushes Jones and presses him up against the cage.

Lee manages to break the clinch.

Jones moves into the clinch.
Lee is trying to break the clinch but Jones is controlling him.

Lee breaks from the clinch.

Lee has closed the distance and engaged Jones in a clinch.
Jones looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Lee dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Lee wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Jones breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Jones throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Lee's waist but Lee gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Jones off to one side.
Jones swings for the body but Lee moves out of range.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Lee gets a takedown into half guard.
Jones tries to get to full guard but Lee has control of the leg.
Jones looks gassed!

Lee is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Jones is just riding it out for now. Lee eventually gives up the hold.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lee tries to pass the half guard into mount. Jones knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Jones is trying to stand.
Lee thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Lee works his way into full mount!
Lee controlling the pace for now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Lee is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Jones to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Jones shrugs it off.
Jones regains half guard.
Jones is trying to maintain the position but Lee is very close to passing his half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Lee is controlling the pace.
Jones is not content to let Lee control the position.
And that�s the end of the round � the fighters go back to their corners.

John Lee dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Lee throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Lee pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Lee avoids a punch combination nicely.
A combination from Jones does no damage.

Lee closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Lee lands in his opponent's guard.
Lee won't allow Jones to sweep him here.
Lee controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Jones is trying to control the position but Lee postures up.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Lee decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Jones, up you get!
Lee is trying hard to land a takedown here. Jones sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Lee closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Jones quickly recovers to half guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Jones is refusing to be controlled, as Lee sits in half guard.
Jones is trying to get back to full guard.

Lee stands up and beckons Jones to join him on the feet.
Lee fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Jones avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Jones is looking to clinch.
Jones misses with a body kick.
Jones shoots for a takedown but Lee saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Lee has Jones up against the cage in a clinch.
Jones prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Lee. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Lee pulls guard effortlessly.
Jones prevents Lee from getting back to his feet.
Jones throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

Jones wants to control from the top but Lee keeps moving.
Jones is looking to stand up but Lee won't let him.

Jones gets to his feet - Lee follows without any prompting.
Nice body punch from Jones.
Jones lands a two punch combo.
Lee closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jones circles away.
Lee misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Jones closes the distance and clinches up with Lee, looking for a takedown. Jones pushes Lee against the cage but Lee circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Lee closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Jones's guard.

Jones is working an open guard so Lee takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones has a takedown stuffed.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Jones looking to land some kicks to the body here.
Lee moves in looking to clinch but Jones pushes him off.
Lee tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Jones throws a body kick that misses.

Lee feints and as Jones raises his hands in defense, Lee changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Jones is looking to stand up but Lee isn't so interested in that idea.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Lee is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
And that�s the end of the round � the fighters go back to their corners.

John Lee dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Lee changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Jones looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
You can see the frustration on Jones's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Jones managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Lee.
Jones gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lee perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Lee looks to land a strike but Jones avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Lee wants to control from the top but Jones keeps moving.
Lee passes easily into side control. Nice work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lee scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Jones to see if he's OK.

Lee is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Jones is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Lee decides to stand back up.
Jones blocks a head kick by Lee.
Jones scores with a head kick.
No joy there for Jones, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Lee bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
John Lee overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Lee tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Lee stands up.
Chopsaki Jones seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Jones looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Jones defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Lee.
This has been an exciting period of action!
A nice combination there by Jones.
Jones throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lee takes a swing at Jones's ribcage but misses.
Jones tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Lee swivels and escapes.
Horrible takedown by Lee or perhaps it was just good defense by Jones which made him look bad.

Lee bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Lee moves into full mount!
Jones wants to control but Lee is having none of it.
Lee postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Jones looks a forlorn figure.

Chopsaki Jones has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Lee lands a nice shot to the head.
Lee cracks Jones with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Lee landing strikes from the mount and Jones is in trouble!

Lee working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jones swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.

And that's the end of the fight!
John Lee showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Lee, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
