PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jake Blues (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ruben Owth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Blues comes to the cage accompanied by Soul Man. On his way into the cage it seems that Jake Blues has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jake Blues seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jake Blues!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Ruben Owth!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fray, Jeff Smith and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Blues moves into the clinch successfully.
Owth can't find room to land a body shot as Blues controls the action.
Owth tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.
Owth displaying some good clinch control by pressing Blues up against the cage.
Owth tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Blues's elbow.

Blues pulls guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Owth advances position into side control!

Owth working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Owth wants to control but Blues is keeping him busy.

Owth tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Owth has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Owth thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Blues sneaks back into half guard.
Blues pushes Owth off looking to stand but Owth dives back in and keeps control.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Owth wants to pass to mount but Blues is defending the position.
Blues might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Owth not doing much here.
Blues is looking for a sweep. Owth is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Blues kicks off Owth and gets to his feet.

Owth closes the distance and clinches.
Owth stalling in the clinch.
Blues looking for a takedown.
Owth tries to work over Blues's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Owth misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Blues's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Owth has taken the fight to the clinch.
Blues is trying to pull guard but Owth has him pressed against the cage.
Blues tries to pull guard but Owth won't allow it.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jake Blues. That's going to take a lot out of him.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Blues letting Owth take a breather here.
Owth goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Owth dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Blues prevents a body shot from Owth.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Owth lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Blues backwards.
Blues is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Owth misses with a body punch.
Blues jumps guard but Owth turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Blues pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Owth defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Blues.
Blues tries to close the distance and clinch but Owth swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Owth stuffs the takedown attempt from Blues. Blues gets slowly back to his feet.
Owth throws a body punch but Blues moves out of range.
Owth thuds a left hand into Blues's body.
No luck for Blues with that takedown attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Owth takes the fight into the clinch.

Blues breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Owth moves into the clinch.
Owth softening up his opponent with strikes, against the cage.
Blues prevents a takedown attempt there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Owth goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Owth scores with a shoulder strike.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Owth content to slow the pace in the clinch.
Owth tries to throw a body punch but Blues avoids it by throwing Owth back against the cage.
Owth struggles to land a body shot inside as Blues controls his hands.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ruben Owth dominated that round.
That's time! Blues's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Blues tries to close the distance and clinch but Owth swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
A looping hook to the body misses from Owth. Blues does a little dance to reset his feet.
Jake Blues seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Blues gets a clinch.
A short body shot lands from Owth as the two fighters clinch.
Owth lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Owth struggles to land a body shot inside as Blues controls his hands.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Owth takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Blues goes for a takedown attempt but Owth pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Owth scores with a jab to the head.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Owth doesn't manage to clinch there - Blues circles away.

Blues looking to score a takedown here. Owth is defending well but Blues drives through and ends up in Owth's guard.
Blues working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Blues trying to move into half guard but instead Owth has managed to sweep!
Owth working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Blues's head.


Blues is rocked!

Owth drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Owth as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Blues screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Owth! Nice submission victory there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:45 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kneebar). Ruben Owth!
Ruben Owth was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
