Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Derown Wheeliams! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Bj Penn! The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Ryoma Takatsuka and Chris Saunders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Some bone on bone action there as Wheeliams checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. A swing and a miss from Penn. Penn throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Nice body punch from Penn. Penn scores with a crisp jab that stopped Wheeliams in his tracks. Wheeliams closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Penn is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard. Wheeliams is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Wheeliams is thwarting Penn's attempts to control the position. Penn moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Wheeliams has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Penn has his foot on Wheeliams's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Wheeliams works his way back into a safe position though. Penn had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Wheeliams defends it easily. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Wheeliams is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Wheeliams thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Wheeliams stands and steps away. Penn gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. The fighters circling - Penn throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Wheeliams shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Wheeliams showed some decent athleticism there. Wheeliams is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Penn sees it coming and defends easily. Wheeliams seems to be working for a kimura but Penn defends the submission attempt. Wheeliams is thwarting Penn's attempts to control the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Penn is defending against the submission attempts here by Wheeliams.
Wheeliams looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Wheeliams wants to free his trapped foot but Penn is holding on for dear life with his legs. Penn trying to control but Wheeliams postures up.

Wheeliams stands up and beckons Penn to join him on the feet. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Wheeliams bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Wheeliams looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A low kick from Penn is predictable there and Wheeliams counters with a takedown into side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Wheeliams tries for a kimura but Penn is defending well. Wheeliams is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Penn is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now. Wheeliams thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Penn wants to control but Wheeliams postures up. Wheeliams tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Wheeliams is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Penn knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Penn struggling a bit here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Penn is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Wheeliams is staying active. Wheeliams is trying to get an arm triangle but Penn is defending well. Wheeliams has hold of Penn's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Penn tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Wheeliams cranks the arm and Penn screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Penn, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:33 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Derown Wheeliams! A very excited looking Derown Wheeliams made sure he remembered to thank all the fans both in the arena and on the internet. He said all the coolest people spend all day on MMA websites, which got a big reaction.
