PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Jan Harwinger (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Hans Manfred (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Jan Harwinger has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Jan Harwinger!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Hans Manfred!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Tarja Halkonen and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Manfred shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Harwinger's guard.
Harwinger will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Harwinger is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Harwinger has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Harwinger working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Manfred doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Manfred manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Manfred must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Manfred bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Harwinger's guard.

Harwinger is looking to stand up but Manfred isn't so interested in that idea.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Manfred is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Harwinger tries to kick Manfred off but Manfred keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Manfred thows a huge punch but Harwinger dodges it nicely.

Harwinger misses with a takedown

and Manfred counters with a single leg into guard. Harwinger didn't expect that.

Manfred stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Harwinger swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Manfred is putting a hurting on Harwinger here, landing some big shots from side control.
Manfred throwing ground and pound but whilst doing so, he forgets to control position and Harwinger works his way back to half guard. Good composure under pressure.
Manfred wants to lay and pray for a moment but Harwinger keeps working.

Manfred looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Harwinger kicks Manfred off and gets back to his feet.
Harwinger shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Manfred pinned against the cage. Manfred gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jan Harwinger. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Manfred turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Manfred manages to end up in side control.
Harwinger really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Manfred escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Harwinger gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Hans Manfred showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
