Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Quentin Costa! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Edvard Westerlund! The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Vladimir Khabensky and Konstantin Menshow.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Westerlund scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Westerlund misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Costa is looking to regain half guard here but Westerlund keeps moving and retains side control. Costa can't do much from the bottom here. The strikes coming from Westerlund are missing the target in this wave of attacks. Costa is trying to improve his position. Costa is working hard here to advance position. Westerlund landing a few strikes. Costa stops Westerlund from passing to mount. Costa parries the strikes from Westerlund easily there. Westerlund is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Costa to escape.
Costa is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Westerlund off and has taken his back!
That's one minute gone in the round. Costa really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Westerlund. Costa controlling well, preventing Westerlund from escaping the position.
Costa is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Westerlund knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Westerlund for a finish. Westerlund just trying to survive but Costa is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish. Costa tries to get the hooks in deep but Westerlund pushed the leg off. Costa is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Westerlund is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Costa has the hooks in. Westerlund is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Westerlund trying to control the hands but Costa breaks the grip. I really don't envy Westerlund right now.
Costa lands punches and elbows. Westerlund rolls, trying to escape but Costa keeps control of the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Costa is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Westerlund knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Westerlund for a finish. Westerlund takes a big shot to the side of the head.

Costa working for a choke but Westerlund is defending well. Westerlund is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Costa off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted. Costa has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Westerlund. Westerlund surviving as best he can, preventing damage. Costa slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Costa lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
I really don't envy Westerlund right now.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Costa lands an elbow to the side of the head. Costa loading up with punches from the back mount - how long can Westerlund hold on?
Costa is landing with strikes. Westerlund can't take much more of this. Westerlund is in bad spot here.
Costa has his opponent trapped and is landing shots. Not a good position for Westerlund.
Westerlund is rocked!
That's four minutes gone in the round. Westerlund is covering up but some of the strikes from Costa are getting through and doing damage.
Westerlund is still in real trouble! Can Costa finish him? Westerlund preventing the rear naked choke attempt from Costa. Westerlund is trying to break free.
Westerlund seems to have recovered his senses. Costa looking for the RNC. Costa looking to hold on to the position here but Westerlund rolls and ends up regaining guard.
Westerlund is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Westerlund keeping moving, preventing Costa from controlling successfully. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Westerlund tries to land a sweep but no joy. Costa with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal. Westerlund not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Quentin Costa dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Costa closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Westerlund quickly recovers to half guard. Quentin Costa overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Costa seems to be looking for submissions.
Westerlund is controlling Costa's position as best he can from this difficult position. Westerlund is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Westerlund trying to control but Costa postures up.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. You can see the frustration on Westerlund's face, being in this tough position on the bottom. Westerlund is looking for a sweep. Costa grinds an elbow into Westerlund's temple.
That's one minute gone in the round. Westerlund tries to control the position but he's not in luck - Costa easily slips into full mount! Westerlund tries to hold on but Costa pushes him away. Costa raining down hammerfists from mount. Costa breaks from Westerlund's wrist control and lands an elbow. Costa postures up and lands a whopping elbow - oh that's hurt Westerlund bigstyle! Two more strikes land for Costa and the fight is over!
