PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Percy Evans (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Corey Cormier (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cormier has chosen Pharoahe Monch - Simon Says as his entrance music. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Percy Evans!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Corey Cormier!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Yves DeLean and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Cormier closes the distance and clinches.
Cormier is pressed up against the cage. Evans has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Cormier down to the mat. Cormier avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Evans.
Evans misses with a takedown attempt - Cormier sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Percy Evans. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Cormier swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Evans looks frusrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Evans fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Cormier lands an overhand right.
Evans darts in trying to clinch
and Cormier counters with a nice kick to the body.
Evans is breathing heavily.
Cormier thuds a left hand into Evans's body.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Cormier throws a shot to the body.
Evans looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Cormier is fending him off so far but Evans persists. Nope, Cormier circles away and we're back to standing.
Cormier throws a nice looking combination but Evans bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Evans. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
Cormier looks to land a combination but Evans avoids it well.
Evans tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Cormier counters by clinching up.

Evans is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Cormier is keeping busy.
Cormier changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Evans fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Cormier wants to control but Evans postures up.

Evans has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

and Evans counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

and Cormier counters with a nice kick to the body.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

and Evans counters with a takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Cormier wants to control but Evans postures up.

Evans is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Cormier has escaped the position, nice work there.

Evans has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Evans stands up and we're back to a striking position.

and Cormier counters with a one-two to the body.

Evans doesn't manage to clinch there - Cormier circles away.
Cormier swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Evans counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Cormier is trying to stand back up but Evans is controlling him
Evans tries to stand and escape but Cormier is controlling the position.
Cormier wants to get back to his feet.

Cormier has one foot on Evans's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Cormier swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Cormier lets loose with a powerful body kick. Evans will feel that in the morning.
Cormier lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Evans looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Cormier is fending him off so far but Evans persists. Nope, Cormier circles away and we're back to standing.

Cormier gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Evans pushes Cormier away with a front kick.
Cormier looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Cormier swats away the attempt to clinch by Evans.
Nice sprawl there from Cormier as Evans shoots in.

Cormier breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Cormier stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Evans.
Evans lands a head kick!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Evans lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Evans throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Evans tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Cormier counters with a left and a right that stings Evans.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Percy Evans will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Evans will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Evans tries to score a body lock takedown but Cormier shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Evans tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Cormier smiles and moves away.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Cormier moves into range and clinches up with Evans.

Cormier breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Cormier misses with a two punch combination.
A solid body kick from Cormier.

Cormier manages to break the clinch.
Corey Cormier seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Cormier fails to land with a series of punches.
Cormier tests Evans's chin there with a solid looking shot.


Evans is rocked!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Cormier throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Evans counters with a single leg into guard. Cormier didn't expect that.
Oh Evans is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!Cormier wants to stand and escape but Evans is having none of it.
Evans throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Cormier works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Evans seems to have got his legs back now.

Evans stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Cormier swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Evans forces his way into half guard.

Cormier is defending against the submission attempts here by Evans.
Evans wants to lay and pray for a moment but Cormier keeps working.
Cormier is looking to escape.
Evans is looking to take a break and control but Cormier is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Evans content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Evans is working for a submission here. He's got hold of the far side arm and he's looking for a kimura. He's cranking on the arm and he's got it! Cormier is tapping out! Ouch, that looked like it hurt!
