Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Julius Maia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Aaron Jason!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, James Atkins and Richard Clark.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maia scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
Jason is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Maia takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Maia looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Jason with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Jason actively working from the bottom here.
Maia lands strikes from half guard.
Maia is looking for a kimura but Jason is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Maia to get the leverage.
Maia throwing shots but Jason is blocking nicely.
Jason wants to improve his position but Maia is controlling well.
Ground and pound from Maia.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Jason is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Maia pulls his head out easily.
Jason is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Maia wants to work for an arm triangle but Jason is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Maia wants to take a breather but Jason is having none of it.
Maia uses his free foot to push down on Jason's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Jason.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jason is trying desperately to improve position.
Jason is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
BOOM! Maia connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Maia has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Maia takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Jason is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Jason is in all sorts of trouble here.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jason tries to reverse the position but Maia maintains control.
Maia looking to control but Jason is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Jason is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Maia locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Jason is forced to tap!
