PBP Commentary |
Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between John Flare (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aaron Jason (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Jason's choice of entrance music: Kryptonite. Aaron Jason told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
12 - 20 - 0, fighting out of London, John Flare!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Aaron Jason!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Colin Fotheringham and Daniel Bishop.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jason changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Flare tries to avoid it but Jason manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Flare to the ground. Flare escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Flare throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jason's waist but Jason gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Flare off to one side.
Flare tries to close the distance and clinch but Jason swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Jason.
Flare shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Jason fakes a jab and scores with a low kick.
Flare drops his hands momentarily and Jason takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Flare closes this distance looking for a takedown but Jason circles away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Flare. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Flare doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Jason counters with a slapping leg kick.
The fight stays on the outside here - Flare looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Jason looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Flare tries to bum rush Jason with a series of wild strikes but Jason uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Jason just misses with a punch to the body.
A left lands for Jason.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Flare takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
That's one minute gone in the round.
Jason fails with a takedown attempt.
Sloppy strikes from Jason. Those never looked like landing.
Jason lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Flare circles away quickly and effectively.
Flare gets caught flat footed, as Jason shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Jason throwing strikes but missing.
Jason drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Jason jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jason controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Jason trying to stand up but can't free himself from Flare's guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
Jason is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Flare looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Aaron Jason has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Flare takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Flare avoids a punch combination nicely.
That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jason will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Jason lands with a head kick! That's gotta hurt.
Jason throws a right and a left that both miss.
A right-left combo lands from Jason.
Jason closes this distance looking for a takedown but Flare circles away.
Flare throws a hook to the side of Jason's head but Jason sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Jason shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Flare sprawls well. Flare wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Jason gets slowly back to his feet.
Jason scores with a hook to the body. Flare takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Jason lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Flare blocks a head kick by Jason.
Flare tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Flare is breathing heavily.
Flare fails with the takedown.
That's four minutes gone in the round.
Flare takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
A head kick from Jason lands but Flare takes it in his stride.
Jason throws a combination. Flare tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Flare is rocked!
A big left from Flare misses.
Oh Flare is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Jason fails to land with a series of punches.
BOOM! Jason lands a beautiful left hook that drops Flare. Flare tries to recover but Jason is having none of it, landing more punishing shots from mount. One final crushing shot and Flare lies motionless on the canvas. The fight is over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:28 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Aaron Jason!
An out of breath Aaron Jason thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
