Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Matt Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Georges Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie comes to the cage accompanied by Twilight Zone. Penn has chosen Break The Walls Down- R.A The Rugged Man as his entrance music. Georges Penn has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Matt Gracie!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Georges Penn!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Shigeki Fujiwara and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Gracie swivels and escapes.
Gracie leaves Penn with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Gracie shoots in but no luck this time.
Matt Gracie seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Penn shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Gracie defends it nicely.
Matt Gracie has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Georges Penn.
Gracie shoots in for a double leg but Penn sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Gracie tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Penn counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Gracie looks like he's trying to stand up.

Gracie flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Gracie is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Penn pulls his head out easily.
Gracie is trying to get back to full guard.

Gracie has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Penn can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Penn really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gracie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Penn's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Penn trying to control but Gracie is working from the bottom.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Georges Penn was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Gracie throws a leg kick

and Penn counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Gracie!
Gracie swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Gracie is squirming around, avoiding Penn's attempts to control the action.
Penn is trying to control here but Gracie has managed to regain half guard.
Penn prevents Gracie from improving his position.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Penn is stalling here. Gracie is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Penn seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Gracie has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.
Gracie tries to move into full mount but can't pass Penn's legs.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Gracie is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Penn has escaped the position, nice work there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Matt Gracie will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Gracie shoots in and bounces Penn off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Penn looking to hit a scissor sweep but Gracie is one step ahead there.
Penn keeping moving, preventing Gracie from controlling successfully.

Gracie stands up from Penn's guard - Gracie perhaps looking for a knockout.
Penn slaps away a takedown attempt from Gracie, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Gracie fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Penn avoids it really well and circles away.
Gracie has a takedown stuffed.

Penn shoots in for a takedown but Gracie shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Gracie tries to clinch up.
Penn fails to land the takedown.
A left and a right from Gracie both land. Nice combination.
Gracie is looking to clinch but Penn is avoiding it.
Gracie stuffs the takedown attempt from Penn. Penn gets slowly back to his feet.
Gracie displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Penn.
Penn shoots for a takedown but Gracie saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Penn shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Gracie sprawls well. Gracie wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Penn gets slowly back to his feet.
Nice takedown defense from Gracie. No joy for Penn on that attempt.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Gracie.
Penn defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Gracie.
Gracie swats away the attempt to clinch by Penn.

Penn shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Gracie sprawls well. Gracie wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Penn gets slowly back to his feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gracie cracks a nice hook into Penn's ribs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Gracie dominated that second round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Gracie moves in looking to clinch but Penn pushes him off.
Gracie closes the distance but Penn moves to the side

so Penn counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Penn must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Gracie keeping busy, throwing shots from the bottom.
Gracie lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Penn!
Gracie wants to control the pace but Penn is squirming around nicely.
Gracie lands with some strikes.

Penn blocking the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gracie is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Penn can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Gracie punching from mount but Penn doing a good job of avoiding damage.

Gracie is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Penn to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Penn shrugs it off.
Gracie wants to control the pace but Penn is squirming around nicely.
Gracie takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Gracie looking to finish Penn with some ground and pound. This is bad for Penn!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gracie throws some wild stikes that Penn manages to avoid easily.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Penn tries to hold on but Gracie postures up.
Gracie has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Gracie looking to control and managing it successfully.
Gracie misses with a head shot.
Penn is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Gracie trying to control but Penn is having none of it.

Gracie working for a submission here. He's tucked his head under his opponent's arm, looking for an arm triangle. He's hopped off into side control, looking to tighten the submission... is it going to work? He's given up a good position looking for it. Penn looks OK. Oh, I spoke too soon, he's out! That must have been tighter than I thought! Excellent work there by Gracie! Submission of the night perhaps?

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Matt Gracie!
