Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Jake Runner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Johny Cage!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cage tries to clinch there but Runner circles away.

Cage forces Runner back against the cage and clinches.

Runner ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Runner no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Cage trying to stand up but can't free himself from Runner's guard.

Runner is looking for a triangle but Cage pushes his legs off easily.
Runner will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Runner looking for a sweep. Not yet Runner, not yet.
Runner looking to control.

Runner is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Runner trying to keep a closed guard but Cage is proving a slippery customer.

Runner has an active guard here but Cage has managed to pass into half guard.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

Cage has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Runner is proving hard to escape from.

Runner escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cage gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Runner keeping moving, preventing Cage from controlling successfully.
Runner looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Cage puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Cage decides to stand and escape the position.
Runner throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cage's waist but Cage gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Runner off to one side.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jake Runner. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Runner looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Runner shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Cage drives through with a takedown into guard.

Runner is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Cage decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Runner, up you get!

Runner darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cage won't allow Runner to pass to mount.
Cage is not content to let Runner control the position.
Runner uses his free foot to push down on Cage's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Cage.
Runner trying to control but he's not successful this time.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jake Runner dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Runner drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Runner wants to control from the top but Cage keeps moving.
Runner passes into half guard.

Runner wants to work for an arm triangle but Cage is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Runner is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Cage has managed to free his arm - good work.
Cage tries to kick Runner off but Runner keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Runner trying to control the action but Cage is working from the bottom.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Cage is trying to stand.

Cage wants to get back to full guard.
Cage is trying to control but can't.
Cage wants to get back to his feet.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Cage looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Runner shoots and misses

and Cage counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Jake Runner overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Cage trying to mount his opponent but Runner defends it.
Cage wants to stand but Runner has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Runner is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Runner wants to get back to full guard but Cage has mounted him!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Cage looking to finish Runner with some ground and pound. This is bad for Runner!
Runner is looking to improve his position but Cage isn't that keen on the idea.
Cage is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Runner can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Runner tries to hold on but Cage pushes him away.
Runner is in all sorts of trouble here.
Cage is landing with some decent strikes but Runner is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Runner bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Runner stands and throws Cage's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Runner advances nicely into full mount.
Cage really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Runner. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Runner looking to control and managing it successfully.

Runner is giving the impression that he's looking to ground and pound but he switches suddenly into a beautiful far side armbar! Cage is forced to tap! Great finish!
