Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jed Rox! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Roberto Duran! The judges for this bout are David Schapiro, Russell Pearce and Lou da Vinci.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Duran takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.
Rox wants to clinch up but Duran keeps it at a distance. Duran drives through with a takedown into guard. Duran stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rox swivels though and keeps the full guard. Rox is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Duran must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Duran keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Rox's head. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Duran accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Rox looking for a sweep. Not yet Rox, not yet. Duran throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Duran is in close to Rox's body, working some short punches and elbows. The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Duran scoring with some ground and pound.
Rox is rocked! Rox looking for a guillotine here but Duran defends easily.
Oh Rox is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Duran landing some decent shots from guard. Rox has his foot on Duran's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Duran works his way back into a safe position though. Rox seems to have got his legs back now.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rox has momentary wrist control but Duran slips an elbow through the middle. Duran pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rox is keeping the position for now. Duran working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Rox's head. Duran wants to pass the guard but Rox is keeping the position. Duran throws a big right hand that misses. Duran trying to control but Rox is working from the bottom. Duran scoring with punches to the head and body. Duran postures up and lands some nice ground and pound. Rox throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Rox manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Duran manages to get himself to full guard.
Duran thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage. Rox is looking to work some ground and pound but Duran has wrist control. Rox is breathing heavily.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Duran wants to improve his position but instead Rox has moved into half guard.
Rox in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Duran tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Rox!
