The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Son looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Wallace shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Wallace tries to free his leg and advance position but Son is retaining full guard. Son working a defensive guard here.
Son being controlled here, momentarily. Son is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Son had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Wallace defends it easily. Son wants to get back to his feet but Wallace is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Son is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
That's one minute gone in the round. Son is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Wallace has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Son has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Wallace doesn't defend quickly enough and Son has managed to lock this one up! Can Wallace escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Son on a fantastic submission victory.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Takanori Son!
