Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Runtu Jorma Gorbatsov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Gilles De Rais! The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Albert Achterberg and Paul Aken.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! De Rais lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Gorbatsov is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by De Rais. Gorbatsov looking to score a takedown here. De Rais is defending well but Gorbatsov drives through and ends up in De Rais's guard. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. De Rais throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Gorbatsov postures up in De Rais's guard and throws a big left but De Rais blocks it. De Rais really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gorbatsov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Gorbatsov sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed De Rais's guard. Gorbatsov thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed De Rais's head. Gorbatsov is sneakily working for an arm triangle but De Rais sees it coming and defends easily. Gorbatsov missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. De Rais is trying to maintain the position but Gorbatsov is very close to passing his half guard. Gorbatsov is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so De Rais is just riding it out for now. Gorbatsov eventually gives up the hold. Gorbatsov not landing any meaningful shots this time.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gorbatsov trying to pass the guard but De Rais defending well. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if De Rais can do anything to dispel that myth. De Rais wants to control the action here but instead Gorbatsov manages to pass to full mount! De Rais wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Gorbatsov.
De Rais has left one of his arms exposed and Gorbatsov doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. De Rais screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:49 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Runtu Jorma Gorbatsov! Our winner, Runtu Jorma Gorbatsov, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
