PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Sliski Stiw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Franklin Diggins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diggins has chosen Bonfire as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Sliski Stiw!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Franklin Diggins!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Jonathan Paton and Chad Campbell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Diggins tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Diggins slaps away a takedown attempt from Stiw, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Stiw is trying hard to land a takedown here. Diggins sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Diggins misses with a wild body shot.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stiw tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Diggins swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sliski Stiw. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Diggins scores with a head kick. Stiw tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Franklin Diggins is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Diggins closes the distance and clinches.
Stiw drops down looking for an ankle pick but Diggins pulls his leg out and moves away.
Stiw misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Diggins moves into the clinch.
Diggins stalling in the clinch.
Stiw is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Diggins gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Come on Diggins - let's have some action - none of this stalling nonsense.
Diggins is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Diggins content to slow the pace in the clinch.

Stiw takes a knee to the side of the body.
Stiw goes for a takedown attempt but Diggins pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Stiw has a takedown stuffed.
Stiw takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.

Stiw shoots in for a takedown but Diggins shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Diggins looks to land a right hand but Stiw moved out of range.
Diggins tries to clinch but Stiw moves out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Franklin Diggins dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Nice defenses there by Stiw.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Diggins displaying some good clinch control by pressing Stiw up against the cage.
Diggins receives a warning from the referee for stalling.

Diggins unloads a knee to the mid-section. Stiw lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Stiw drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Diggins is fighting off a takedown attempt but Stiw is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Diggins to the mat. Diggins regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Diggins is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Diggins takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Stiw won't allow Diggins to pass to mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Still in half guard, Diggins seems content to control.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Franklin Diggins.
Diggins is looking to slow Stiw down with leg kicks.
Stiw looks for a takedown but Diggins sprawls well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Diggins tries to clinch up but Stiw circles away and keeps his distance.
Stiw shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Diggins pinned against the cage. Diggins gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sliski Stiw. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Stiw is defended easily by Diggins.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Diggins misses with a body shot.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Franklin Diggins showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!


Stiw fails with the takedown.
Stiw checks a leg kick.

Diggins gets in close and instigates a clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Stiw is working for takedown but Diggins is calmly controlling the position for now.
Diggins utilising his Muay Thai to score with a knee to the body.

Stiw drops down looking for an ankle pick but Diggins pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Sliski Stiw. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Diggins wants to clinch up but Stiw keeps it at a distance.
Diggins turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Franklin Diggins seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Stiw blocks a low kick nicely.
Diggins tries to close the distance and clinch up but Stiw swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Diggins is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Stiw decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Diggins gets back to full guard.

Diggins wriggles free and stands up.
Diggins comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Diggins fails in his attempt to clinch.
Diggins wants to clinch.
Diggins tries to clinch but Stiw moves out of range.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Good leg kick by Diggins there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Stiw swats away the attempt to clinch by Diggins.
Diggins throws a head kick that misses.

And that's the end of the fight!
Franklin Diggins comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Diggins has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

After the fight, Franklin Diggins was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
