Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Rojo Sangria! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Boxer Jr! The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Alec Ball and Elvis Blanc.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice takedown defense from Boxer Jr. No joy for Sangria on that attempt. Sangria paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Sangria looks to land a left hand but Boxer Jr moved out of range nicely. Sangria bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Boxer Jr is looking for a sweep. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Sangria trying to control the action but Boxer Jr is working from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Sangria tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Sangria working the ground and pound. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Boxer Jr tries to improve position but can't.
That's one minute gone in the round. Boxer Jr is trying to control Sangria's posture but Sangria avoids it. Boxer Jr is looking to regain half guard here but Sangria keeps moving and retains side control. Sangria wants to lay and pray for a moment but Boxer Jr keeps working. Boxer Jr takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head. A lull in the action here as Sangria stalls from top position. Sangria trying to control the position but Boxer Jr is working away. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Boxer Jr can do anything to dispel that myth. Sangria happy to just control the position for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sangria working the ground and pound. Boxer Jr tries to improve position but can't. Check out the look on Sangria's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Boxer Jr takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
Sangria lands a nice forearm strike. Sangria looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything. Sangria fails to land a wild elbow strike.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet. Boxer Jr really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sangria. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Sangria landing a few strikes.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Sangria scores with punches from side control. Sangria cracks Boxer Jr with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Boxer Jr is rocked! Sangria connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Boxer Jr some visible discomfort.
Boxer Jr is still in real trouble! Can Sangria finish him? Sangria cracks Boxer Jr with a big elbow. Oh, he's hurt! Sangria immediately mounts and start dropping bombs! Boxer Jr is done! The referee jumps in and saves him from any more punishment - a quick and decisive finish by Sangria!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:34 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Rojo Sangria! A relieved looking Rojo Sangria thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
