Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Dave Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brown Maynard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Maynard is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Smith.

Smith fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Maynard, pushing him back against the cage.
Maynard changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Smith fights it off and pushes away nicely.
Maynard loads up on a big right hand but Smith slips the punch.
Smith tries to score a power double leg takedown but Maynard sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Smith somewhat.

Smith goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Smith lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Maynard bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Maynard goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Smith has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Maynard but great work by Smith.

Smith is taking a breather. Maynard says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That was a close round but I would say that Dave Smith will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Smith feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Smith connects with a nice short shot to Maynard's temple.
