PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Sakuraba Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Odin Raveneye (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie comes to the cage accompanied by Gimme Shelter. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 15 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sakuraba Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Odin Raveneye!
The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Daniel Cesar and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gracie fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Raveneye manages to avoid it.
Raveneye misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Gracie counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Raveneye fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Raveneye throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Raveneye with a nice cross.
Raveneye lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Gracie throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
Gracie throws a hook to the side of Raveneye's head but Raveneye sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gracie is defended easily by Raveneye.
Gracie misses the jab.
Gracie showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Raveneye.
Gracie misses with an uppercut.

Gracie drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Raveneye wants to sweep but no luck.
Gracie scoring with some ground and pound.
Raveneye wants to stand but Gracie is controlling the position.
Gracie working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Raveneye's head.
Gracie has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Raveneye not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Gracie trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Gracie throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Raveneye works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Raveneye pulls Gracie in to control the position.
Gracie connects with a couple of short punches.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Raveneye avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Gracie working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Raveneye can do anything to dispel that myth.
Gracie passes into half guard.
Gracie prevents Raveneye from improving his position.

Gracie takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Gracie prevents Raveneye from standing back up.

Raveneye is trying to get back to full guard.
Raveneye is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Gracie is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Raveneye is just riding it out for now. Gracie eventually gives up the hold.

Gracie is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

Gracie is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Gracie is working for a submission of some sort.

Gracie is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Raveneye sees it coming and defends easily.
Raveneye really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gracie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Gracie wants to work for an arm triangle but Raveneye is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Gracie is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Raveneye defends it well.
Raveneye is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Gracie throwing shots but Raveneye is blocking nicely.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Raveneye is looking to improve his position.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Gracie connects with a nice short shot to Raveneye's temple.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Gracie prevents Raveneye from standing back up.
Gracie winds up and cracks Raveneye with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Raveneye regains full guard. Nicely done.
Gracie stopping the sweep attempt from Raveneye.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sakuraba Gracie dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Raveneye connects with a good right hand that stumbles Gracie. Gracie circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Gracie ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Raveneye moves away.
Gracie takes a swing at Raveneye's ribcage but misses.
Raveneye tries a low kick but Gracie avoids it.
Gracie avoids a kick to the body.
Raveneye misses with a body shot

and Gracie decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Raveneye's guard.
Gracie postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Gracie missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Gracie pushing down on Raveneye's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Gracie is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Raveneye doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Gracie.
Raveneye is looking to improve his position.

Raveneye is defending against the submission attempts here by Gracie.

Gracie has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Raveneye defend it? Gracie steps over the head and cranks it - Raveneye is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Gracie!
