PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Kasey Ballard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rylan Hunter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ballard comes to the cage accompanied by Eye of the Tiger. Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Kasey Ballard!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rylan Hunter!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Eliza Hachem and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hunter shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Ballard tries to sprawl but Hunter drives through with a takedown into half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Hunter connects with a nice short shot to Ballard's temple.
Ballard wants to control but Hunter is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Ballard won't allow Hunter to pass to mount.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Hunter in particular looking to stall.
Ballard is trying to control but can't.
Ballard is trying to stand back up but Hunter is controlling him

We're going to have a standup here because Kasey Ballard wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Hunter drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hunter is looking to stand up but Ballard won't let him.

Hunter drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Ballard manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Hunter has Ballard in his guard.
Ballard wanted to stand there but Hunter had control of the position.
Ballard is breathing heavily.

Hunter is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Hunter lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Ballard!

Ballard has given up his back. Will we see Hunter going for some submissions?

Ballard defends a rear naked choke attempt by controlling one of Hunter's arms.

Hunter looking to break Ballard's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Ballard remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Hunter will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

Hunter is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.
I really don't envy Ballard right now.

Ballard manages to get to his feet, escaping the difficult position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Ballard shoots for a takedown but Hunter saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Ballard has a takedown stuffed.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Hunter shoots for a double leg takedown but Ballard sprawls well. He's pushed Hunter's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Hunter shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Ballard pinned against the cage. Ballard gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rylan Hunter dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Ballard moves in looking to clinch but Hunter pushes him off.
Ballard keeps the fight on the outside.
Ballard fails with a takedown attempt.
Hunter slips under a jab.
Hunter fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ballard avoids it really well and circles away.

Hunter forces Ballard back against the cage and clinches.

Ballard manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Hunter loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Hunter trying to control but Ballard is working from the bottom.
Hunter postures up.
Hunter must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hunter won't allow Ballard to sweep him here.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Hunter is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Ballard is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Ballard has escaped and now he's on top!

Ballard got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hunter has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ballard has managed to get both his arms back between Hunter's legs - danger averted.

Hunter throws his legs up looking for a submission but Ballard uses it to pass to side control.

Ballard has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Hunter looks for a takedown but Ballard sprawls well.
Hunter shoots for a takedown but Ballard saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Kasey Ballard has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rylan Hunter.

Hunter shoots in and gets a takedown into Ballard's guard.

Ballard is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Hunter wants to control from the top but Ballard keeps moving.
Ballard is trying to keep Hunter in close.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Hunter accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Hunter is looking to advance position but Ballard has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
Ballard prevents Hunter from getting the reversal.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hunter reaches up to try and control the position but Ballard seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Hunter rolls and tries to escape and now Ballard has his back!

Ballard struggling to keep hold of the position.
I really don't envy Hunter right now.
A bit of a pause in the action here. Ballard controlling the positon.
Rylan Hunter has got the better of the ground game so far.

Ballard looking for the choke but no joy.
Hunter wants to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Rylan Hunter will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Ballard misses with a wild combination.
Hunter is trying hard to land a takedown here. Ballard sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Ballard shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hunter but Hunter pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Hunter rushes Ballard and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Hunter wants to free his trapped foot but Ballard is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Ballard is not content to let Hunter control the position.

Ballard is trying to control but can't.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Hunter throws a head kick that misses.

Hunter looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Hunter is thwarting Ballard's attempts to control the position.

Hunter is looking for a kimura here.
Ballard makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Ballard.

Ballard is pulling down on Hunter's head to control his posture.
Hunter stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ballard swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Ballard escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hunter gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Hunter wants to pass the guard but Ballard is keeping the position.

Hunter slips nicely into half guard.
Hunter trying to control the action but Ballard is working from the bottom.

Hunter is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Ballard doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Hunter.
Hunter throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Rylan Hunter comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Hunter has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
