PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Rainbow Brite (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Connor Kelly (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brite kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Rainbow Brite. The crowd seem to be enjoying Kelly's choice of entrance music: (When) Your Middle Name Is Danger. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rainbow Brite!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Connor Kelly!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Gwen Towbar and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brite looks to land a body kick but Kelly moved away.
Brite gets off balance looking for a body kick
letting Kelly counter with a right hand.
Kelly takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
A lazy left from Brite finds it's target.
Brite looks to land a combination but Kelly avoids it well.
Brite throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kelly will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Brite scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Kelly doesn't seem bothered though.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Brite.
Brite punishes Kelly's body with a nice straight punch.
Kelly misses with a low kick as Brite jumps back.
Rainbow Brite seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Brite tries to score with a low kick but Kelly moves his leg out of the way.
Kelly ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Kelly chopping away at his opponent's legs.
Kelly takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.
Brite goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Brite misses with a body shot.
A head kick misses from Brite.
Kelly's jab looks to have found its range, popping Brite under the eye.
Brite falls off balance throwing a combination
and Kelly cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kelly defending well as Brite loads up on a big left hand.
Brite takes a swing at Kelly's ribcage but misses.
Kelly checks a leg kick nicely.
Kelly misses with the combination.
Kelly throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Brite sees it coming and avoids it easily.

Kelly darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Kelly wants to free his trapped foot but Brite is holding on for dear life with his legs.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Kelly is taking a breather. Brite says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Kelly is working for a kimura but Brite is defending it quite comfortably.
Kelly is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Kelly looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Kelly wants to work for an arm triangle but Brite is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Brite regains full guard. Nicely done.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kelly throwing strikes but missing.
Brite wants to stand but Kelly is controlling the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Connor Kelly will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Kelly ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Brite moves away.
Brite misses with a wild combination.
Brite pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Brite throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Brite ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Kelly misses with a takedown attempt - Brite sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Kelly takes a swing at Brite's ribcage but misses.

Brite takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Brite throws a leg kick that is checked
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Brite just misses with a punch to the body.
Brite scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Brite moves away from the strike by Kelly.
Brite jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Brite feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Kellys jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
Kelly throws a jab when Brite was well out of range.
Kelly tries for a takedown but Brite sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Brite just misses with a punch to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Kelly ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Rainbow Brite is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Kelly takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Kelly moves out of range of the body kick from Brite.
Kelly lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Kelly shoots in but no luck this time.
Rainbow Brite has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Connor Kelly.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Kelly avoids a punch combination nicely.
No joy there for Brite, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Brite finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.

Kelly shoots for a double leg takedown but Brite sprawls well. He's pushed Kelly's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Decent striking displayed by Brite there.
Brite looks to score with a jab to the body but Kelly is just out of range.
Kelly throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
The crowd cheers as Kelly lands an impressive looking overhand right. Brite doesn't seem phased though.
Kelly displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Brite throws out the jab.
Kelly smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Brite keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Kelly avoids the body shot from Brite.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The fighters circling - Brite throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Rainbow Brite is winning the standup battle so far.
Horrible takedown by Kelly or perhaps it was just good defense by Brite which made him look bad.
Kelly scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Brite doesn't seem bothered though.
Kelly ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Kelly throws a predictable looking body shot
and Brite counters with a stiff right hand.
Brite tests Kelly's chin there with a solid looking shot.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Brite fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Kelly is out of range.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Rainbow Brite will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Kelly ducks under a wild hook from Brite.

Kelly closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Kelly controlling the pace.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kelly is trying to control. Brite wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Kelly is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Kelly tries to pass to full mount but Brite defends it.

Brite is positioning himself well to prevent Kelly advancing to mount.
Brite is not content to let Kelly control the position.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Brite is looking to improve his position.

Kelly is looking for a kimura but Brite is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Kelly to get the leverage.
Kelly trying to control the action but Brite is working from the bottom.
Kelly throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Brite to regain full guard.
Kelly wants to pass the guard but Brite is keeping the position.
Brite controls Kelly momentarily but Kelly frees himself.

Kelly looking to sit in guard and control but Brite gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Kelly wants to hit a switch here but Brite passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Kelly there!
Kelly can't escape the position.
Brite content just to control the position here.
Kelly is looking to get to half guard.

Kelly wants to control but Brite is having none of it.
Kelly is desperately trying to improve his position but Brite has a good base and remains in mount.
Kelly is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kelly wants to hold on but Brite pushes him away.

And that's the end of the fight!
Connor Kelly comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Kelly has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
