Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Nick Diaz!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Geese Howard!
The judges for this bout are Hugh Johnson, Damien Edna and Summer Carpenter.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Howard keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Howard throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Diaz shoots in and drives through. Howard sprawls well.
Diaz's jab looks to have found its range, popping Howard under the eye.
Diaz moves out of range as Howard throws a body kick.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown but Howard shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Nick Diaz. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Howard wants to clinch.
Diaz changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Howard tries to avoid it but Diaz manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Howard to the ground. Howard escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Diaz shoots in and bounces Howard off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Diaz thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Diaz drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Diaz jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Diaz with a flurry of punches that miss.
Diaz trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Howard is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Howard is looking to sinch up a triangle. Diaz throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Howard's body to avoid the submission. Howard has instead reached around Diaz's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Howard arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Geese Howard!
