PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Diago Sanchez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rampage Griffin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Griffin has chosen Go Ninja- Vanilla Ice as his entrance music. Diago Sanchez is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Diago Sanchez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rampage Griffin!
The judges for this bout are Eddie Farnsworth, Franklyn Lucas and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch combination from Griffin misses.
Sanchez tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Griffin paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Sanchez fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Sanchez shoots in looking for a takedown. Griffin tries to sprawl out of it but Sanchez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Griffin manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Sanchez drives through and clinches with Griffin against the cage.

Sanchez has Griffin pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Sanchez pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Griffin tumbling to the mat - Sanchez dives into Griffin's guard.

Sanchez throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Griffin works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Sanchez wants to control from the top but Griffin keeps moving.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Griffin fails in his attempt to clinch.
Griffin looks to land a combination but Sanchez avoids it well.

Sanchez has Griffin up against the cage in a clinch.
Sanchez lands an elbow that stopped Griffin in his tracks for a moment.

Sanchez has hold of one of Griffin's legs. Griffin is fighting the takedown attempt but Sanchez gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Griffin controls Sanchez momentarily but Sanchez frees himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Griffin keeping moving, preventing Sanchez from controlling successfully.
Sanchez is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Griffin is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Griffin is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Sanchez trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Griffin will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Griffin is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Sanchez tries to free his leg and advance position but Griffin is retaining full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Griffin scores with a hook to the body. Sanchez takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Griffin tries to close the distance and clinch but Sanchez swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Griffin misses with a jab, cross combination.
Sanchez fails with the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Diago Sanchez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sanchez is breathing heavily.
A punch combination from Griffin misses.
Griffin digs a good hook to Sanchez's body.
Sanchez changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Griffin tries to avoid it but Sanchez manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Griffin to the ground. Griffin escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Sanchez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Griffin but Griffin pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Griffin lands with a nice combination. Sanchez backs away looking to recover.
Griffin slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Sanchez chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Griffin can pounce on him.
Griffin throws a combination. Sanchez tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Sanchez fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Sanchez shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Griffin's guard.
Sanchez content to stall in guard here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sanchez wants to control from the top but Griffin keeps moving.
Sanchez advances to half guard.

Sanchez stands up out of the half guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Griffin throws a shot to the body.
Sanchez sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Sanchez fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Diago Sanchez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The fighters circle momentarily. Griffin darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Sanchez misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Sanchez ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Griffin moves away.
Griffin avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Griffin lands a nice shot that snaps Sanchez's head back.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
A combination from Griffin does no damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Diago Sanchez will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Sanchez shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Griffin pinned against the cage. Griffin gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Sanchez is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Griffin.
Griffin throws a combination. Sanchez tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Griffin lands a nice hook to Sanchez's body. Sanchez takes it in his stride and looks to land his own strikes.
A head kick by Sanchez misses
and Griffin counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Sanchez fails with a takedown attempt.

Sanchez closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Sanchez can't get the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Diago Sanchez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Griffin is looking to break free of the clinch but Sanchez has double underhooks.
Griffin wants to get back to striking at distance but Sanchez won't allow it.

Sanchez lands a takedown into guard.
Griffin wants to stand up but Sanchez is controlling him.
Sanchez throwing strikes but missing.
Griffin wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Sanchez gets to his feet. Griffin looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Sanchez drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Sanchez jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Sanchez slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Sanchez wants to pass the guard but Griffin is keeping the position.

Sanchez passes Griffin's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Sanchez is trying to control the action in half guard but Griffin is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Sanchez is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Sanchez goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Griffin is on top in guard.

Sanchez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Griffin doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Griffin manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Griffin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Griffin sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Sanchez's guard.

Sanchez wants to control but Griffin is keeping busy.
Sanchez gets full guard.
Sanchez is trying to keep Griffin in close.

Sanchez escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Griffin gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Sanchez is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Sanchez throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Diago Sanchez dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Sanchez has closed the distance and engaged Griffin in a clinch.
Griffin wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Sanchez lands an elbow inside.
Sanchez tries to score a body lock takedown but Griffin shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Sanchez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Griffin looks to land a body kick but Sanchez moved away.
Griffin throws a leg kick which misses Sanchez's front leg but catches the back leg as Sanchez tries to avoid it.
Griffin stuffs the takedown attempt from Sanchez. Sanchez gets slowly back to his feet.

Sanchez feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Sanchez has hold of Griffin's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Griffin manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Griffin wants to hold on but Sanchez pushes him away.

Sanchez working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Griffin is looking to improve his position but Sanchez isn't that keen on the idea.

Sanchez looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Sanchez controlling the position easily from mount.
Griffin can't escape the position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Sanchez is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

Sanchez fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Griffin, pushing him back against the cage.
Sanchez is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Griffin gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Diago Sanchez. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Sanchez has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Griffin regains guard immediately.

Sanchez swings around for an armbar but Griffin sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Sanchez's guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Diago Sanchez showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Sanchez, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
