PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Gary Bowman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Luis Fierro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gary Bowman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Luis Fierro!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Stewart Dunkirk and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Left hook, right uppercut from Fierro.


It looks like Gary Bowman has been cut.

Bowman shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Fierro holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Bowman tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Bowman throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Fierro because Bowman loaded up on that one.
Bowman thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Bowman has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Fierro can't escape the position.
Bowman throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Bowman throwing strikes here but Fierro is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Fierro is looking to get to half guard.

Fierro has given up his back. Will we see Bowman going for some submissions?
Fierro is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.

Bowman slows the pace down here. Having a little breather whilst he's in a dominant position, looking to rest and regain some energy, ready to go for the finish.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Gary Bowman wasn't doing enough on the ground.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Bowman.
Fierro finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Gary Bowman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Fierro fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Bowman shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Fierro as he jumps to the side.
Bowman is breathing heavily.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gary Bowman. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Fierro scores with a sloppy right hand. Bowman should have avoided that one.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Gary Bowman will probably get the nod.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

and Bowman counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Fierro's guard now.
Bowman is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Fierro is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Bowman wants to stand but Fierro has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Gary Bowman overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Gary Bowman wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Fierro doesn't manage to clinch there - Bowman circles away.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Bowman tries a head kick but it misses.
Fierro connects with a right hand. Bowman shakes it off.

Bowman slips a jab and a cross from Fierro.
Fierro is trying hard to land a takedown here. Bowman sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Bowman finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Gary Bowman is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Fierro counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Fierro bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Bowman's head backwards.
Luis Fierro seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Fierro's corner calls for a 1-2. Fierro obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

and Bowman holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Gary Bowman has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Luis Fierro.
Bowman has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Fierro after a bit of a struggle.
Fierro has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Bowman is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Fierro tries to score a body lock takedown but Bowman shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Bowman pulls guard effortlessly.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Bowman wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Bowman closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Bowman lands in his opponent's guard.

Bowman drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Fierro dives on top into guard.

Bowman drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Bowman jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

That was a close second round but I would say that Gary Bowman will probably get the nod.

Bowman is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Fierro defends well.

Bowman had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Fierro defends it easily.

Fierro wants to control but Bowman is keeping him busy.
Bowman misses with some strikes from the bottom.
Fierro is trying to control the action in half guard but Bowman is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Bowman is not content to let Fierro control the position.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Luis Fierro hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Fierro lands a nice shot to the body.
Fierro sizes up Bowman with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
Fierro throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Bowman.

Fierro misses with a low kick.
A punch combination from Fierro misses.
Fierro tries to clinch up.
Fierro looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Bowman is fending him off so far but Fierro persists. Nope, Bowman circles away and we're back to standing.

Bowman shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Poor strikes thrown by Bowman there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

I would just about give that final round to Luis Fierro.
I think Bowman has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
