7 - 12 - 0, fighting out of New York, Doug Copley! The judges for this bout are Anthony Taglia, John Roberts and Alyssa Summers.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Copley fails to land with a series of punches.

It looks like Tony Gates has been cut. Copley closes the distance and clinches. Copley pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. No luck for Gates with that takedown attempt. Copley misses with an uppercut
and Gates counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Copley keeping moving, preventing Gates from controlling successfully. Copley uses the cage to get back to his feet.

Copley is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Gates's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Gates's back! Copley lands an elbow to the side of the head. Copley tries to keep control of the position but Gates is staying busy. Gates rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Copley tries to stand but his arm is trapped. Copley wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gates keeps working. Copley wants to stand up but Gates has a hold of him and won't allow it. Gates moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Gates looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.

That's four minutes gone in the round. This has been an exciting period of action! Gates manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Copley manages to get himself to full guard.
Gates postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Gates throws an elbow that misses. Copley uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Gates's guard. Nice move by Copley! Copley scoring with punches to the head and body. Gates lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Copley! Gates lands with some strikes. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Gates has control of Copley's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Copley regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Gates gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Copley throws a solid leg kick but Gates takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Copley. Gates connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Gates checks a low kick. Bone on bone - not my idea of a good time. Copley is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Gates's half guard. Copley prevents Gates from improving his position. Gates works his way to full guard. Good work. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Copley passes Gates's left leg - he's now in half guard. Gates tries to roll over but Copley keeps him under control.

He'll be looking to tighten that up but Copley can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Gates looking for a guillotine here but Copley defends easily.
Copley wants to stand but Gates has a closed guard, so he can't escape. Gates is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Copley is aware though and is defending well. Copley must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Gates controls Copley momentarily but Copley frees himself. Copley keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Gates's head.

Copley wants to control from the top but Gates keeps moving. Copley advances position into side control! Copley wants to stand but Gates has his arm trapped. Copley wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gates keeps working. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Copley wants to stand but Gates is controlling his arm. Doug Copley has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Copley working away. Gates sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Doug Copley. I think Gates has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
