The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Bird closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. James did well to prevent Bird getting side control.

James is defending against the submission attempts here by Bird.

Bird is working for a submission of some sort.
James tries to get to full guard but Bird has control of the leg.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bird is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

James looking for submissions off his back.

James is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Bird pulls his head out easily.

Bird is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Bird is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Bird thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

James looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.

Bird is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so James is just riding it out for now. Bird eventually gives up the hold.
