Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Paul Mullen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Warren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Warren has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. This should be fireworks!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Paul Mullen! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Warren! The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, John Roberts and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mullen throws a wild combination but nothing lands. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Warren. Warren closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Warren lands in his opponent's guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Warren is stalling in the full guard. Warren trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Warren stopping the sweep attempt from Mullen. Mullen avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Warren must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Warren looking to sit in guard and control but Mullen gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top. Warren looking for a sweep. Not yet Warren, not yet. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Mullen wants to stand but Warren has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Warren utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound. Warren wants to sweep but no luck. Mullen wants to pass the guard but Warren is keeping the position. Mullen scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Warren preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Mullen loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Mullen is in close to Warren's body, working some short punches and elbows. Warren is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Warren looks gassed! Mullen postures up in Warren's guard and throws a big left but Warren blocks it. Mullen is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. This has been an exciting period of action! Warren working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Mullen. Mullen is looking to work some ground and pound but Warren has wrist control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mullen would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Mullen postures up in Warren's guard and throws a big left but Warren blocks it. Mullen passes into half guard. Mullen seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime. Mullen is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Warren is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Mullen looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Warren with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position. Mullen looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Mullen takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists. Warren is looking for a sweep. Mullen is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Warren manages to get to full guard.
Mullen loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Mullen trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Mullen wants to control from the top but Warren keeps moving. Mullen lands a couple of decent looking shots. Warren is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Warren keeping moving, preventing Mullen from controlling successfully. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Mullen stands up from guard. Let's bang! James Warren seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Warren tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Paul Mullen dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Mullen stalks Warren and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Warren's face. Warren staggers backwards, shaken. Mullen is trying hard to land a takedown here. Warren sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. Warren fails with the takedown and Mullen counters with a left and a right that stings Warren.
Warren is rocked! Mullen plants his feet and throws a brutal three punch combo that sends Warren swiftly into unconsciousness! Right, left, right! Boom, boom, boom! Warren face plants, battered and bloodied! He might never be the same again after that finish!
