The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A momentary lapse in concentration from Speed enables Gomez to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Speed manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Gomez drops back looking for a leg! Speed is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Speed manages to kick Gomez off! Gomez jumps back into Speed's guard.
Speed is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Speed working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gomez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gomez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Speed is looking for a triangle but Gomez pushes his legs off easily.
Gomez drops back looking for a leg! Speed is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Speed manages to kick Gomez off! Gomez jumps back into Speed's guard.
Speed pushes a forearm under Gomez's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Gomez is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
