Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Toshiro Montero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jan Kowalsky (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Montero comes into the arena with Danzig - Mother blaring out of the sound system. Toshiro Montero has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Toshiro Montero!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Jan Kowalsky!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Josh West and Jeff Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Montero closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Montero in side control lands a nice looking series of punches and elbows.
Montero lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Kowalsky down.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kowalsky is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Kowalsky tries to roll over but Montero keeps him under control.
Montero wants to free his trapped foot but Kowalsky is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Montero takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Montero prevents Kowalsky from improving his position.
Montero performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Kowalsky is looking for a sweep. Montero is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Montero working over Kowalsky with some ground and pound. Kowalsky looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Montero lands with a punch from half guard.

Montero winds up and cracks Kowalsky with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!

Kowalsky is refusing to be controlled, as Montero sits in half guard.

Montero throws a strike but Kowalsky avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Montero got a little sloppy there for a moment and Kowalsky has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Montero has managed to get both his arms back between Kowalsky's legs - danger averted.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Montero's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Montero keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Kowalsky's head.

Kowalsky is trying to get back to half guard.

Kowalsky sneaks out the side door and pushes Montero away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Kowalsky tries to close the distance and clinch up but Montero swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Kowalsky looks to score with a jab to the body but Montero is just out of range.

Kowalsky fails to land the takedown.
Kowalsky seems to have recovered his senses.
Montero keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Montero throws a right and a left that Kowalsky avoids nicely.
Kowalsky shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Montero misses with a series of wild punches.

Montero looking to score a takedown here. Kowalsky is defending well but Montero drives through and ends up in Kowalsky's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Montero landing with the ground and pound.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Montero is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Kowalsky escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Montero gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Kowalsky has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Montero should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Kowalsky has tightened it up now! Montero should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:37 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Jan Kowalsky!
A relieved looking Jan Kowalsky thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
