Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Tricolor Paulista (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maelo Paulo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maelo Paulo told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the featherweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tricolor Paulista! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
7 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Maelo Paulo! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, and Frank Antenori.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Paulo shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Paulista defends it nicely. Paulo is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Paulo will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Paulo is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Paulista throws a combination. Paulo tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Paulo takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket. Paulo shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Paulista defends it nicely. Tricolor Paulista has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Maelo Paulo. Paulista cracks Paulo with a good jab. Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Paulista, as that shot connected.
That's one minute gone in the round. Paulista throws a series of punches but Paulo avoids them all with ease. Paulo drives through with a takedown into Paulista's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Paulo drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Paulo jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Paulo pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Paulista is keeping the position for now. Paulista wants to get back to his feet but Paulo is in a dominant position and won't allow it. Paulo passes easily into side control. Nice work. Paulista tries to escape but Paulo is in control. Paulo working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Paulista tries to escape but Paulo is in control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Paulo tries for a kimura but Paulista is defending well. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Paulo is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Paulista knows the correct defense though, so he's OK. Paulo is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Paulista has escaped the position, nice work there. Paulo tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Paulo has hold of Paulista's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Paulista tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Paulo cranks the arm and Paulista screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Paulista, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:19 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Maelo Paulo! Maelo Paulo is the new featherweight champion! Maelo Paulo took to the mic in his post fight interview and said 'Oh yeah! '.
