PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matrim Cauthon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rydolf Karel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Karel has chosen Hail Czech as his entrance music. The key to victory for Matrim Cauthon has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Matrim Cauthon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Rydolf Karel!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Damien Edna and Summer Carpenter.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cauthon cracks Karel with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Cauthon throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Karel misses with a double jab
and Cauthon counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Cauthon sizes up Karel with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

Cauthon fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Karel shoots in looking for a takedown but Cauthon manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Karel's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
A combination from Cauthon does no damage.

Horrible takedown by Karel or perhaps it was just good defense by Cauthon which made him look bad.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
The crowd cheers as Cauthon lands an impressive looking overhand right. Karel doesn't seem phased though.
Cauthon throws a shot from downtown. Karel moves away and avoids it.

Karel shoots in for a takedown but Cauthon shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Matrim Cauthon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rydolf Karel.

Cauthon throws a combination. Karel tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Cauthon scores with a sloppy right hand. Karel should have avoided that one.

Cauthon walks into a stiff left hand from Karel.
Cauthon throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Karel stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Cauthon wants to control but Karel is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Karel is trying to control the action in half guard but Cauthon is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Cauthon bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Karel's head backwards.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Karel works to advance to full mount. Cauthon defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Karel has hold of Cauthon's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Cauthon manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

That was a close second round but I would say that Matrim Cauthon will probably get the nod.

Matrim Cauthon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rydolf Karel.
Karel doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Karel tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
A decent looking cross lands there for Cauthon.
Cauthon feints a jab promting Karel to slip. Cauthon then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Karel slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Cauthon, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
