Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Peter Aerts!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Hessu Hopo!
The judges for this bout are Arvi Lind, Anni Minnemäki and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aerts throws a head kick that half lands.


It looks like Hessu Hopo has been cut.
Aerts throws a poor cross that misses

and Hopo counters by clinching up.
Aerts tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Hopo's elbow.
Hopo tries for a takedown. No joy.
Hopo swings away with an uppercut that misses.

Aerts throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Aerts just misses with a elbow thrown towards Hopo's brow.

Aerts scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Hopo doesn't seem bothered though.

The fight stays on the outside here - Hopo looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Hopo uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Aerts.

Hopo takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.


The cut above Hessu Hopo's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Peter Aerts is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Aerts swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Aerts tries to clinch but Hopo is having none of it.
Hopo avoids the head kick by Aerts.
Hopo takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Hopo throws a shot from downtown. Aerts moves away and avoids it.
Peter Aerts seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Hopo shoots in and bounces Aerts off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Hopo throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Aerts works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Hopo works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Hopo seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Hopo tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Aerts is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Hopo tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Aerts was well out of range. Poor timing from Hopo.
Aerts thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Hopo if he has to take too many more of those.

Hopo is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Hopo manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Hopo is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Aerts is keeping busy.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Aerts here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Hopo unloads with some shots from mount but Aerts bucks and avoids them well.

Hessu Hopo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Hopo thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Hopo swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Aerts is now in Hopo's guard. A big mistake from Hopo there, giving up the dominant position!

Aerts misses with an attempted mid kick.
Hopo darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Aerts scores with a push kick.
Aerts lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Aerts jabs Hopo right on the nose. Hopo blinks but takes it well.

Hopo takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Aerts swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Hopo.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Aerts. Hopo shrugs it off though.
Hopo shoots in looking for a takedown but Aerts manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Hopo's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Hopo has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Aerts.

I would just about give that final round to Hessu Hopo.
I think Aerts has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
