PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brent McNeil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vincent Valentine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brent McNeil!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Vincent Valentine!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Gregory Folan and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

McNeil looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
McNeil sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Valentine defending well though.
McNeil has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Valentine works to full guard.
McNeil tries to stand but Valentine is controlling from the bottom.
McNeil not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
McNeil wants to pass the guard but Valentine is keeping the position.
Valentine is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round.
McNeil wants to control from the top but Valentine keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
McNeil stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Valentine swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Brent McNeil has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Valentine displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.

McNeil scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.
McNeil is looking to take a break and control but Valentine is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Valentine trying to control from the bottom.
Valentine might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control McNeil kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Valentine looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
McNeil performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

McNeil is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Valentine defends it well.
Valentine regains full guard. Nicely done.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Valentine looking for a sweep. Not yet Valentine, not yet.
Valentine trying to keep a closed guard but McNeil is proving a slippery customer.
McNeil is in close to Valentine's body, working some short punches and elbows.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
McNeil stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Valentine swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Valentine is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
McNeil working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
McNeil trying to control but Valentine is working from the bottom.
McNeil sitting in guard here, content to control.
McNeil looking to sit in guard and control but Valentine gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Valentine trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Valentine drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Valentine jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

McNeil working for a triangle but Valentine defends it easily.

McNeil has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Valentine can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Brent McNeil dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

McNeil trying to mount his opponent but Valentine defends it.

McNeil trying to control from Valentine's half guard. Valentine has other ideas though and has regained full guard.

McNeil postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Valentine is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of McNeil, into his guard.

McNeil looking for a guillotine here but Valentine defends easily.
McNeil looking to control.
McNeil wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Valentine postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Valentine wants to control from the top but McNeil keeps moving.

Valentine drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Valentine jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

McNeil working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Valentine has passed into half guard!

Valentine is trying to work for a kimura but McNeil is defending well.
McNeil is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Valentine's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Valentine's back!
Valentine tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Valentine tries to lock up and control but McNeil gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

McNeil swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Valentine is now in McNeil's guard. A big mistake from McNeil there, giving up the dominant position!

McNeil has his foot on Valentine's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Valentine works his way back into a safe position though.
Valentine stands and throws McNeil's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Valentine has hold of McNeil's arm. He's looking for a kimura. McNeil seems comfortable defending it but Valentine has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! McNeil is real pain and he's forced to tap out! McNeil is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Valentine couldn't care less - he's delighted!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Vincent Valentine!
Vincent Valentine very nearly forgot to thank Beast Body amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
