Overeem comes to the cage accompanied by UFC - Face the Pain . Lakay comes into a darkened arena with his song building. LOSER!! It was you!! kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alistair Overeem! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Marc Jay Lakay! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Dmitry Maklakov and Konstantin Menshow.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lakay fails to land the takedown. Lakay scores with a body shot.
Overeem is looking to chop away at Lakay's legs. Overeem misses with a looping left. Lakay shoots in for a takedown but Overeem shows good takedown defense. Lakay displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Overeem throws out the jab. Marc Jay Lakay seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Overeem missing with a left hand there. Lakay was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one. Overeem attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin. Lakay shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work. Lakay trying to control the position from guard on top but Overeem is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Overeem manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Overeem jabs Lakay right on the nose. Lakay blinks but takes it well. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Lakay takes a jab right on the kisser.
Overeem blocks a leg kick.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lakay tries a head kick but it misses.
Lakay shoots for a takedown but Overeem saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily. Alistair Overeem has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Marc Jay Lakay. Lakay defending well as Overeem loads up on a big left hand. Lakay ducks straight into an uppercut from Overeem and tumbles to the canvas! It’s a flash knockdown though - Lakay manages to regain guard straight away.
Lakay is rocked! Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Lakay is looking to sweep but instead, Overeem has passed into half guard.
Lakay is still in real trouble! Can Overeem finish him? Overeem stands up and beckons Lakay to join him on the feet. Lakay seems to have recovered his senses. Overeem doesn't manage to clinch there - Lakay circles away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Overeem throws a good cross that connects.
The fighters circling - Overeem throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Overeem misses with a wild combination.
Lakay fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Overeem avoids it really well and circles away. Lakay misses with a hook to the body
and Overeem counters with a huge uppercut, hook combination that drops Lakay! The ref has seen enough - he's dived in to stop the fight! Brutal strikes by Overeem!
