Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Igor Arona! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Peter Pansen! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Seu Braga and Matheus Silva.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Pansen throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Arona was covering up waiting for the punch and Pansen finishes the takedown easily into guard. Arona is adopting a defensive guard. Arona keeping moving, preventing Pansen from controlling successfully. Arona working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Pansen. Pansen drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Pansen jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Pansen showing good wrestling skills to control the position. Arona is looking to sweep but instead, Pansen has passed into half guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pansen is figuring out what he wants to do next. Arona wants to get back to his feet.
Arona has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Pansen is working away from the top position though.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Pansen throwing shots but Arona is blocking nicely. Pansen trying to control the action but Arona is working from the bottom.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Pansen forces Arona back against the cage and clinches. Arona looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Pansen tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Arona smiles and moves away.
Arona throws a series of punches but Pansen moves out of range. Pansen gets a clinch. Pansen is looking to break free of the clinch but Arona has double underhooks. Arona escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Arona lands a slapping body shot.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pansen shoots in and drives through. Arona sprawls well. Pansen shoots in for a takedown but Arona shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Igor Arona has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Peter Pansen. Pansen looks for a takedown but Arona sprawls well. Nice uppercut lands for Arona. That snapped Pansen's head back.
Arona throws a nice looking combination but Pansen bobs and weaves to avoid any damage. Horrible takedown by Pansen or perhaps it was just good defense by Arona which made him look bad. Arona ducks down and throws a hook to the body. Pansen looks gassed! Pansen looks up at the clock. Bad move! Arona lands a right hand from hell, dropping Pansen. Arona pounces and finishes the fight with a flurry of punches and elbows.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:42 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Igor Arona!
