PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mike Horner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Junior Paulista (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Horner comes to the cage accompanied by Roky Erickson - Stand For The Fire Demon. Paulista is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Champagne Supernova. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mike Horner!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 8 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Junior Paulista!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Arvi Lind and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Horner scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Horner closes this distance looking for a takedown but Paulista circles away.

Horner shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Horner works his foot free and advances to mount.
Horner prevents Paulista from getting the reversal.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Horner swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Paulista is now in Horner's guard. A big mistake from Horner there, giving up the dominant position!

Horner utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Horner is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Paulista defends well.
Paulista wants to pass the guard but Horner is keeping the position.

Horner had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Paulista defends it easily.
Paulista working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Paulista's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Paulista slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Horner gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Paulista is looking for a kimura but Horner is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Paulista to get the leverage.

Paulista prevents Horner from standing back up.
Paulista thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Horner's head.
Paulista throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Horner is looking for a sweep. Paulista is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Horner kicks off Paulista and gets to his feet.
Paulista fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Horner checks it well.
Horner looks to land a body kick but Paulista moved away.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Horner has closed the distance and engaged Paulista in a clinch.
Paulista with the Thai clinch, lands a knee to the head.


It looks like Mike Horner has been cut.
Paulista has had enough of the clinch but Horner keeps him there for the moment.
Paulista is looking to break free of the clinch but Horner has double underhooks.
Still in the clinch, Horner scores with a nice short uppercut.

Horner escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Paulista misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Horner shoots in looking for a takedown but Paulista manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Horner's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Paulista throws a shot from downtown. Horner moves away and avoids it.
Horner shoots in but no luck this time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mike Horner. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Paulista lands a head kick!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Horner lands a body shot.

Horner closes the distance and clinches.
Horner is looking to break free of the clinch but Paulista has double underhooks.
Horner on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Paulista wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Paulista pulls guard.
Paulista looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Paulista is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Paulista manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Paulista lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Paulista with shots to the head and body - Horner looks very uncomfortable down there.
Paulista cracks Horner with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Horner is looking to improve his position but Paulista isn't that keen on the idea.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Horner takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Paulista raining down hammerfists from mount.


Mike Horner's cut is getting worse.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Paulista can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Horner is looking to escape.

Paulista jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Horner is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Horner and Paulista has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Paulista in side control here. He's dropped a big elbow there and Horner looks hurt! Oh, he is hurt! Paulista turns on the heat and pounds him out for a TKO victory! Good killer instinct there!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Junior Paulista!
An out of breath Junior Paulista thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
