12 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Butch Williams! The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Kenichi Hosakawa and Hirohito Nitta.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nayama misses with a wild body shot. Williams takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Williams attempts a leg kick but it's missed by a good margin. Nayama tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Williams was well out of range. Poor timing from Nayama. Nayama checks a low kick from Williams. Nayama dips down and scores with a jab to the body. Nayama misses with a shot to the body and Williams counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Williams lands a nice short elbow. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Williams connects with a nice short shot to Nayama's temple. Williams thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Nayama's head. Nayama is looking for a sweep. Williams is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Nayama is looking to wear down Williams with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment. A looping hook to the body misses from Nayama. Williams does a little dance to reset his feet. Nayama swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target. Williams fails with an attempt to clinch.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Nayama closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Williams's guard. Williams keeping moving, preventing Nayama from controlling successfully. Nayama is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Williams is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nayama slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Nayama is trying to get an arm triangle but Williams is defending well. Nayama working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Williams tries to improve position but can't. Nayama wants to lay and pray for a moment but Williams keeps working. Williams gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

Nayama is controlling his opponent, waiting for an opportunity to finish. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! You can see the frustration on Williams's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Williams postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Williams stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Nayama is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Nayama working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Williams doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Williams tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. And that's the end of the fight! That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Yorito Nayama. Well Nayama has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win...
