PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nolan Sackett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fernando Pontes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sackett's entrance music is Bad To the Bone. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Nolan Sackett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fernando Pontes!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Alexandre Firmino and Matheus Silva.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pontes misses with a double jab
and Sackett counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Sackett rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Pontes moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Pontes shoots in looking for a takedown. Sackett tries to sprawl out of it but Pontes keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sackett manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Pontes closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Pontes throws a strike aimed at the side of Sackett's head but Sackett avoids it well.
Pontes scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Sackett to see if he's OK.

Pontes swings around for an armbar but Sackett sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Pontes's guard.

Pontes is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Sackett is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Nolan Sackett.
I think Sackett has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
